    Last Night - Observations...

A really enjoyable night at the Best and Fairest - full credit to the Club. A few observations from my humble perspective....

    1. The reception given to Frosty by both players and everyone else there. He had real trouble holding it together when giving his farewell speech - real lump in the throat stuff. Every Swans player then stood up and gave him a standing ovation, everyone else soon followed. The accolades were pouring in from all speakers - and he was duly rewarded with Life Membership. Make no mistake - he was one very popular player, highly regarded by everyone at the club.

    2. Cressa will be sorely missed - just watching some of the highlights of him this year brought it all home. He has been an absolute legend and there's going to be a rather large hole in his position... His celebrations after the goal against Freeo and after the Port game summed up the passion this fella had for the Swans.

    3. Paul Roos is an absolute Statesman - there is nobody he didn't thank or give credit to. Its obvious why this bloke is held in such high regard by all his staff and peers, and he acts and speaks with such grace and humility.

    4. Craig Bolton - to me, one of the quiet achievers this year - finishing 6th in the Band F. Fosdike also had a very good year - talk on this list of trading him appears to be without any merit, he ain't going anywhere.

    5. Saddo - finished 20th - and remember these votes come from Roos and the matchday committee. I think he may be under a bit of pressure...

    6. There is certainly a good feel about what's happening right now. However Ron Barassi hit the nail on the head when he said the opportunity we have as a club demands success - no other club has the resources at our disposal and it has to translate to premierships. He also said that anything in 2004 would be an abject failure if we didn't do the same, or better than this year.

All the awards were well deserved - Schneider, BBB, Goodsey, Jude - no real surprises in each category. We're in good hands from the board down at present - and I'm sure we won't squander the opportunity like we did after 96.
    Regards,

Good wrap up Was again a very good night (Atlhough slightly better for some than others by the looks of things ). The boys seemed to be far more accessible this year than in previous years which was nice, although I thought the presentation side of things was slightly more rushed than in previous years. Could be to do with the fact that it was a 7:30 start instead of a 7:00 one. But the band was much better this time

Mike should have a bit of a pictorial wrap-up somewhere but I plan to be approving it before it goes up on the site lest a few of us RWO'ers get a tad embarrassed

And again, for the record, Tadhg absolutely rocks lol! And Nick Davis was a bit of a classic - some will tell you he signed a car instead of a guernsey because he was too p!ssed to know the difference roflmao!

No...he actually signed both.....but did the car first

      I'm on the Chandwagon!!!

If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.

Top night. Plenty of sore heads in Sydney (including mine) this morning would be my expectation! It was wonderful to see such genuine happiness on the part of the players, and the interaction with all of us was great.

It was a CULT night, but I've been struggling all day, both at work and tonight.

Man, so many people totally drunk as skunks letting it all loose after a long hard season. Ah, the wonders of free champers.....12 glasses later.......

I'll let the pictures from Mike B's camera do the talking, but the pictures of several listees will not be flattering.

I actually got to pin a "I hate Collingwood" badge and stuck it on the totally wasted Nick Davis. I took several photos, whilst ND only replied that he was "totally on fire". Michael, PLEASE can we see them!!!!!!!!

Had a chat with several great people, including Schneidergirl and a friend of Peter Hatley's who was as drunk as me. Gemma was totally hypo on the dancefloor, with Lizz also excelling.

I sent SMS updates to people who were actually there!

Oh, did I tell you that I was pretty thirsty last night?

Good vibe all around. The players seem very upbeat and were seen engaging in a post-season huddle, psyching themselves up for a big night ahead.

But Mike, PLEASE can we see the Nick Davis pics?

That struck me too. Actually they spent more time singing Frosty's praises than they did Cressa. I guess it is a very Australian thing to laud the battler, the Troy Luff type who kept on getting knocked back again and again, only to finally make the grade. Frosty is still very much a knock-about country bloke, which I guess is why he got the send off he did.

I expected a send-off for Cressa. But did not expect the send-off Frosty got. No wonder the poor bugga was visibly emotional by the time he was finished up on the stage.

The great man had the audience spellbound. He just lives and breathe football.

Then he blew it all by saying that Sydney was the capital of Australia!

              On ya Barass!

                  Hmm...

I have some vague recollections of a short but vigorous stint on the dancefloor but I don't remember much after that. In fact, I don't think I lasted much longer. Must learn how to pace myself on the vino russo! My head hurt a lot today.

To put things in perspective though, Ryan O'Keefe (who seems to be a "must-keep" according to many on this board) came 23rd. And Pebbles played 15 games to Saddo's 13.

The results of the count really brought home how many of our guys had really great seasons. Players like Cressa and Schauble couldn't crack the top 10 and both were pretty good for us all year.
