Lets take a risk.. GOODES FOR CAPTAIN

We need something bright and new for our future.

Maxfield is an intense workhorse, whose "leadership by example" has taken us back into the finals. But we need just one bit more of an edge... we need to take a real risk to be a chance again at the GF... if we really want to win, I advocate that we take a risk, and Goodes be changed to CAPTAIN. After the pain and anguish of last year, he really wants to win. He's shown that now with the Brownlow and B&F... if he can be a leader in moving all players to be that way, we're on our way to our first Sydney Premiership.

I'd be inclined to say wait until 2005 - as people have said in other threads, very few brownlow medalists have big years the year after the win due to the added scrutiny they receive. Let him concentrate on improving himself further next year and ensuring he can maintain the status he has earnt himself for this year.

You wouldn't recognise a risk if it bit you in the arse . . .

Make Nick Davis captain . . that would really be bright and new!

Goodes is probably a natural choice as our next captain, but I think it's best to wait another year. Give him a year in the leadership group - I'd say he'll take Cressa's spot - and see how he goes.
        We hate Anthony Rocca
        We hate Shannon Grant too
        We hate scumbag Gaspar
        But Leo WE LOVE YOU!

Sorry, but if Goodes is good enough to be captain, he's good enough to show that leadership on-field (and off) without the label of 'captain'. This year he did it in spades, as did Jude. But so did Maxfield and I can't believe we'd have done any better this year with a different captain.

Goodes' turn will come in due course if he's the right man.

This is the other extreme to those who wanted to dump Goodes and O'Loughlin at the end of last season.
Hard to believe that was only 12 months ago.

Anyway, he had a great year, but just because he won a Brownlow does not instantly make him next in line for captain.
There is much more than being a great player involved in being a captain.
Having said that, I would suggest that he would be in amongst a group of candidates to be the next leader, but I'd let Maxfield play the role for the next couple of seasons.

IMO we should stick with Stuey for a little while longer until Goodsey is settled and ready.

Agree. Even though I argued for Goodes to be captain this time last year, I would now let Stuey go for one more year (I think that's all his body has left) and have Adam take over after that.

He is the natural successor, and has surprised even me with the way he handled himself at/after the Brownlow.

Leo Barry? you star! We'll miss ya, ''Leapin''.

Is the feeling that Maxi will be Captain until he retires correct? When do people imagine that would be? Goodes as a possible replacement is a great idea. I prefer the idea of Barry Hall for Captain though (BTW, I reckon he's next year's Brownlow winner-there's a wild call for ya). Guess we'll see.

Goodes IMHO is the next Captain, but not until Stewy retires. Stewy only has a couple of years left and Adam has a lot to learn from him. He is far too young at the moment to be made captain, but I think that the cllub should be moulding him for the Captaincy. He should serve an apprenticeship as the vice captain he obvioulsy has the skill, I just don't want to rush him.

                    There is plenty of time!

I wanted Goodes to be captain last year so of course I want him to be captain this year.

He won't be though. The club will give Maxfield one more year. I'm not sure if this is building for the future though. Maxfield is only one injury away from retirement.

I still think that Jude Bolton should be our next captain.

Leave Goodes alone and let him be even better.

Maxfield should remain captain only as long as he is performing the job well.
But, as long as he is doing a great job, no-one has the right to jump in and make a claim for it.

This is not a battle for the leadership of a political party, the captaincy is an honour bestowed on a player buy the Swans board. You earn it.
