    Swans Order of Draft Picks

Section from the Swans 2003 report from the Herald Sun website:

Matthew Nicks to Melbourne for Paul Wheatley

    ORDER OF DRAFT PICKS: 15, 30, 46, 62, 78 (subject to trades)

The Swans are unlikely to make wholesale changes after such a successful year and their debt means they can't afford to splurge on marquee names. But Paul Roos needs a versatile tall and appears to have lost faith in Matthew Nicks to fill the role, dropping him twice this season.

How they must wish they'd drafted Broken Hill youngster Brent Staker before West Coast last year. Melbourne could use Nicks to help Russell Robertson and long-kicking defender Paul Wheatley seems suited to the SCG and is out of favour.
In memory of my little Staffy - Dicey, 17.06.2005 to 1.12.2011- I'll miss you mate.

Still young - 50 odd games. Tallish, solid build, very fast, and a booming kick. Played mostly defense and midfield. Occasionally kicks big goals on the run from outside 50m.
From memory, was the Demons first pick in 1999 draft.
Has never settled into a permanent position at Melbourne, and is now firmly out of favour with Daniher . . . . possibly an attitude problem?

I've always enjoyed watching him play because of his big kicking, particularly in the pre-season with those 9 point goals.

I'd like to see him playing for the Swans, but it would depend on the deal.

            Trade for Nicks? . . . . probably.

            For Saddo? . . . no way!
