Exactly right. We at least deserve 6 games in Melbourne, after all the club started here. We'll play North in Canberra I would say, so maybe 6 is all we can hope for?

I'd be overjoyed with 6 in Melbourne but people seem to think we will only get 5. I think the AFL counts the stupid Kangaroos game in Canberra as one of our quota of 6.

It seems like some Victorian based supporters have overlooked the fact that the Swans left Melbourne some years ago! The only reason you get 5 games or more is the number of Victorian teams in the competition.

In the not-too-distant future it's just going to be reduced with another NSW/ACT based team, maybe an NT and a Tasmanian team. You will just have to get to grips with it.

Des - I'm sure that if the Kangas went to AFL headquarters and asked to play Collingwood in Canberra, they'd be laughed out the door. It's not as simple as them deciding where to play their home match - it's a request they put in that can be granted or denied.

It's up to the AFL to recognise the Melbourne Swans fanbase, and deny the request.

Oh no, please please let's not go there again...I can sense RWO war 29 about to break out again!

Yes, but the AFL will see the expansion of the game as more important as the Melbourne swans fans. It would be madness to schedule games in Canberra and NOT have the swans play one of them - we would draw the biggest crowd. As long as the AFL thinks that the swans should play in Canberra, we will always be one of the sides picked to play the roos there.

I'm on your side Charlie - but there is no way we will be drawn to play north in melbourne as long as they are playing home games in Canberra.

                12 in Sydney
                6 in Melbourne
                1 in Canberra
                3 split up between Perth/Adelaide/Brisbane

I'd be happy with that in the interim (on assumption that North and the Bulldogs eventually give up on their northern excursions and move their games back to Melbourne).

177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out....

Just when I thought the Sydney / Melbourne rivalry had finally died down.. Now we're getting a WA / VIC battle

It doesn't seem likely the Bulldogs will give up their frequent flyer points. More likely they will seek to increase them by adding more Darwin games to their itinerary. Their latest plan is for back to back games without flying home. They must be on a good fly-buys scheme at the hotel.

                      ROUND 21

                      SATURDAY AUGUST 21 AEST
                      Sydney Swans vs Essendon
                      Telstra Stadium 7:40 PM AEST

                      ROUND 22

                      SATURDAY AUGUST 28 AEST
                      Richmond vs Sydney Swans
                      MCG 2:10 PM AEST

Well if this is our fixture, its a good one, again we have to play Brisbane twice, but its balanced by getting to play Geelong, Richmond, Melbourne and Kangaroos twice and the other 2 are Fremantle and Essendon who we should be able to beat at home. Going to Perth doesn't help and if the Subi curse is in effect again next season we have to back up at home twice, once against Hawthorn and tougher still Brisbane.

Tough start to the season I think to have to play Brisbane in Brisbane. The games in Victoria well, it sucks that we get 5 again and one HAS to be in Geelong meaning for some it will be 4 games in Melbourne. Still when we play in Geelong the night before the place will be rocking when the crew hits Geelong for the party at Cher's place and the magical tour of Geelong thanks to Ert

Have to be happy with that draw, though we should have 6 games in Melbourne. For the record we play the Dees, Collingwood and Essendon at Telstra Stadium, have 2 trips to the MCG and one game under the roof of the Dome surprisingly against Melbourne.

Don't like the fact we have to travel to Brisbane, Adelaide, Canberra and Perth in a season again and the trip to Geelong doesn't help that point out. Still its a draw that we can have no real complants about
                      Once was, now elsewhere

Robbie basically covered what I have to say - tho some of the venue choices are baffling

                        ROUND 5

                        SATURDAY APRIL 24 AEST
                        Sydney Swans vs Melbourne
                        Telstra Stadium 7:40 PM AEST

Surely this game will be at the SCG - I can't see the Dees drawing a big enough crowd to make TS a worthwhile investment for this one

                        ROUND 6

                        SATURDAY MAY 1 AEST
                        Essendon vs Sydney Swans
                        MCG 2:10 PM AEST

Essendon play as many games as they possibly can at the Collo-Dome - and ALWAYS play non-Vic sides there - surely they are not expecting a 50,000+ crowd for a game involving a non-Vic team in round 6??

                        ROUND 10

                        SATURDAY MAY 29 AEST
                        Western Bulldogs vs Sydney Swans
                        S.C.G. 7:40 PM AEST

I was under the impression that the Bulldogs had abandoned the Sydney experiment in favour of the Darwin one

                        ROUND 20

                        SATURDAY AUGUST 14 AEST
                        Melbourne vs Sydney Swans
                        Telstra Dome 7:40 PM AEST

The MCG is Melbourne's home ground, and they play as many games as they possibly can there - ever since I can remember we have ALWAYS played Melbourne at the MCG

But if I thought some of our venues were a little baffling - check THIS doozie out!

                        ROUND 5
                        Fremantle Dockers vs Geelong
                        MCG 3:40 PM AEST

                        ROUND 20
                        Geelong vs Fremantle Dockers
                        Skilled Stadium 2:10 PM AEST

By my calculations this has the Round 5 Freo-Geelong game being played at half time in the Essendon-Collingwood Anzac Day clash which is scheduled to start an hour and a half earlier at the same venue

For those who doubt the credibility of bigfooty as a source - this fixture can actually be found on the AFL site by following this link:

and typing the appropriate round number on the end to view different rounds

Looks like they've pushed the Sunday games back to 2pm?

Round 5 - that's the Anzac Day clash - I think they're hoping that would be reason enough to sell tickets.

That's a bit weird - doesn't fit in with C9's scheduling of AFL vs League.

Round 5 - that's the Anzac Day clash - I think they're hoping that would be reason enough to sell tickets.
But Sat 24th is NOT Anzac Day. The idea of the Melb game here was a twilight game on Anzac Day.

That draw also shows TWO games competing directly with the "traditional" game....

....though presumably the last one should be Subi at 3:40 Perth time (5:40 AEST)

I think I'll wait until the OFFICIAL AFL announcement is made. That draw might be on the AFL site but I dont think it's correct. Does it happen to resemble some previous year perhaps?
