    Those 2.10 starts

    Hooooooooooooooooooray....or is it premature?
I notice from the draw that our Sunday games start at the much more friendly time (to us at least) of 2.10pm....
This suits us perfectly, but I wonder if it will stay this way...with channel 9 having the rugger on sunday afternoons, starting at 4. Does this foreshadow a broadcasting realignment...the rugger moving back an hour, perhaps? No live telecasts into Sydney of Swans matches on Sunday afternoons? Or perhaps, as I suspect, the matches will be shifted to 1 pm again, so channel 9 can still show the brown-nose game...

    Any thoughts?
"Davis...Davis has kicked 2...he snaps from 40...dont tell me, dont tell me, hes kicked a goal....unbelievable stuff from Nick Davis, can you believe this, he's kicked 3 final quarter goals and Swans are within 3 points..."

Well, something I did notice in the downloadable fiuxture list from afl.com.au was that on there, it had start times listed as TBC. I can't see whya fter 2 years of 1:10pm starts under the current contract that next year would be any different.

    I'm on the Chandwagon!!!

If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.

The fixture is published without televison times, the times on the website are at this stage an indication of the likely start times and in most cases will be correct for Friday and Saturday afternoon games, but Saturday & Sunday nights are subject to Channel 9 & 10 decisions re telecasting.

There is absolutely no way our games will start at 2.10pm on Sunday's, it will be 1.10pm as the television contract stipulates that Channel 9 must be provided with games back to back for double headers on TV into Melbourne.

With the second games coming from Adelaide and Perth we will always go first at 1.10pm. The only other way is if channel 9 does not telecast our game and leaves it for Foxtel to cover but that is highly unlikely considering the opposition we have on Sundays and the way we played this year.

I?d be very surprised if any Sunday game involving either the Swans or Lions started ay any time other than 1:10pm. C9 will insist that as many of the early Sunday games as possible involve either the Swans or Lions. Their Sunday footy schedule (in Sydney and Brisbane) revolves around a live AFL match and a delayed NRL match being telecast, it would be ratings death if the Sunday AFL fixture didn?t regularly involve the hometown team in Sydney or Brisbane.

If the Swans played their Sunday matches at 2:10pm, that would mean that no Swans matches would be shown by C9 in 2004 as we don?t have any Friday night matches scheduled. C9 would not wear the situation where they are totally frozen out of Swans games in the Sydney TV market.

perhaps C9 are intending on changing their Sunday line up and showing the league later. I doubt it as the Sunday evening with news, blitz (type shows) and 60 min rates very well.

I used to love watching the league replay leading up to 8.30 Sunday movie years ago. IIRC it was televised on C's 10 or 7 though not 9.

I think we're stuck with 1.10 starts which writes off my Sunday, as to watch the entire ressies game you need to be there by 10am, with 45 min to an hour travel picking up eveyone on the way from different locations I don't get to do much else.

But on a sunny day in the middle of winter, I can't think of much better than that.

I can't believe how picky you guys are. Get over it, if you want games at 2pm do you understand the impact it will have on the Melbourne based supporters who don't have foxtel? Because the only way we get FTA coverage in Melbourne on a Sunday is if the games start at 1pm.

2:10 starts would mean I would have to run for the friggin train again. The train back to Goulburn is at 5:15. In 2001, more often than not I either had to leave early, or bolt for it straight after the final siren. So I am going against the flow on this one.

I sympathasise with you Des...it is a problem for many of us. What suits one person, doesn't necessarily suit others. Needless to say that we'll wear whatever time they give us. The 1pm starts just mean that OUR whole Sunday morning is a no-go, as we like to arrive in time to see at least the last half of the curtain-raiser, and often bring along guests to introduce them to football. What really used to irk was the few games that started at 12ish a few years back...
To me, as a traditionalist , football should be played at around 2pm and indeed for most of my footy life it has been...

Geez you people I can't believe it!

In ALL these postings only ONE person has picked up the FACT that the AFL has NOT issued any times yet. Someone on Big Footy has inserted them, and have guessed WRONG.

Is it April 1 or what?
