SSI continues to agitate for this and have discussions with the Club, specifically on this matter. There is an SSI committee meeting next week to discuss next steps.

Bron - Does SSI support a totally member-elected board straight away? Or would it support a gradual process, say 2 board members per year until the entire board is member elected? Personally, I feel that a complete switch to elections straight away would be an unnecessarily destabilising influence.

Charlie, the proposition put to the Club was a transition. It was suggested this would take place over 3 or 4 years, with either 3 or 3 (respectively) places becoming vacant each year and put up for election.

I totally agree on the concerns about destabilising influences. With 3 (IIRC) board members retiring this year, the position is that it was a good time to start the transition with minimal impact on current members of the Board.

            Bron,

Good to see that SSI is still plugging away at this. I had been thinking recently that it had floated off into the ether, having not heard anything for about 3-4 months.

Maybe its time for another email newsletter update? Or if there's been one can you please check that I'm on the email list? Thanx

Totally agree ... but there was a period in September, when the focus was on just one thing! The committee is regrouping this coming week.

Am i confused or are there only 9 members of SSI ?

Is this just the comittee or all members ?

Can I ask - who would be eligibile to run and who would want to run? Would, for example, people on here be putting together a ticket and what would the platform be?

There is a committee of nine who were elected in May by the broader membership base. Members have have joined for periods ranging from 1 to 5 years and there is also a large extended mailing list.

The Club apparently is putting together a paper to define who is eligible to vote.

SSI ran a workshop in June to determine the preferred approach. All SSI members were invited and we had around 25 - 30 people attend. The position put forward by those people was that full Club members (including Country members) over 18 years of age who had been members of the Club for more than 2 years should be eligible to stand for election.

Whilst i am happy to admit i was not a fan of this type of group to start with, 25 -30 people out of a potential of 20, 000 plus members or 14,000 plus full members is hardly representative !

Surely this says something about the need/relevance of such a group !

Not trying to be argumentative here just questioning the point ?

That proposal very much frames the concept as an elected representative of the members on the board, rather than the members getting to choose a director (or directors) that they believe would best serve the club. If a candidate has to have been a member it narrows the field considerably.

Bron - approximately how many members do SSI actually have?
