Disappointment: AFL 2004 Computer Game (Adam Goodes a WHITE GUY?)

After winning the Brownlow, Best Player in Sydney Swans side and other accolodes, of course Goodes would better noticed.

But thing is, that I just got the AFL 2004 game and Goodes is a WHITE GUY... geez!.... It just goes to show that the game is still very Melbourne-centric, and a lot of the people over there don't take notice of non-Melbourne clubs like us... or how good we really are.

Goodes, a descendant of the Stolen Generation, has done a lot of work for the Indigenous people of Australia, (I think he's a representative or something for Indigenous Sportspeople or something as well).. and also I've heard he's done a lot of work at Redfern here in Sydney.

To make Goodes a WHITE GUY is a DISGRACEFUL mistake, and could have the appearance of racist overtones.

I want to make up a PETITION in here.. to send to those guys who made the game to make Goodes the cool BLACK (Indigenous Aussie) GUY that he is.

Otherwise, let's BLACK-BAN it...

I suppose the big question about that is ALL players represented as white or is there differentiation and Goodes just appears to have slipped through the final checks? I can recall getting AFL 95 (yes I know ancient times - only works on W95 hehe!) and all the players were white during the games themselves (their real pics were used in the player profiles it looked like) - took a bit of getting used to the likes of Michael Long and Derek Kickett being white!

To make him white is certainly an annoying mistake that they should rectify ASAP. But to say it has racist overtones... really, PC out of control again.

For it to have racist overtones, all the aboriginal players would have been portrayed as white. For only Goodsey to slip through probably means that there's been a stuff-up in the rush to get the game to market.

I'm not sure who makes it (not having noticed games much in the last 7-8 years), but I very much doubt that it's a racist thing. Just something to add to the bug list to be fixed up ASAP via a patch etc.

In all seriousness I doubt it was a racist thing, more like just a stuff up by the developers (EA Sports?)

I have the game too (good for distracting me from my real work). Here are my thoughts:

I noticed Goodes as well, considering I couldn't even imagine playing as any of the other teams . BTW O'Loughlin has dark skin in the game.

They have made Port and Collingwood REALLY bad. I find it hilarious every time I have to play them .

The attention to graphic detail is really quite good, but I suspect at the expense of game play

It really badly needs some form of trading options, or way to change the players' skill levels. After all, guys like Schneider are pathetic in the game, even Willo got shafted a bit.

I reckon a number of these issues were overlooked by the programmers in a rush to get the game to market before the end of the season, during the finals when the excitement of AFL is at its peak.

I have the ps2 version of 2003, I didn't notice the problem. Any comments on the 2004 game by the way? I was going to toddle off and buy it next week anyway, but just curious if it is a big improvement on the 2003 game (apart from updated player lists etc).

What has the reference to the "stolen generation" got to do with the fact that the Goodes character has been miscoloured? It is more a gratuitous political statement than a factual reference.

BTW I AM a genuine descendant of the "stolen" generation but I don't have it on my CV or expect to have reference made to it in every sentence written by and about me.

Looks like the fact that Adam's Aboriginal, is another piece of Swan news that's snuck under the guard down there in Melbourne...have the press picked it up yet that he's black, even a cousin of Magic...
Oh well, I think I'll leave AFL 2004 alone...I'll wait for the 2005 version when they have Kevin Sheedy as a martian...
