    Notting

I apoligise if this has already been mentioned somewhere, but I heard on Ch10 news yesterday, that the swans are chasing Tim Notting from Brisbane. I'd love to have him.

    What do people think?

Did it say a likely cost in terms of trades? He's a good player, but he's no star.

No, nothing like that was said, all they said was 'the swans are chasing Tim Notting'. You're right he's no star, but neither is C.Bolton, and look what he's been able to. There are some similarities between the two, both struggled to get a game in Brisbane, but both are quality players. I don't think Brisbane will be looking for too much in terms of a trade, they want to offload him.

I would look at anyone from Brisbane.

Same here... there is not one player I've seen play for Brisbane in the last couple of years who I wouldn't want at the Swans, at the right price of course. Well... there is one, and that's Aker, but only because his ego wouldn't fit in the door at the SCG.

They're scarily good, and it's about time they send a few more players down our way. Start with that Mal fellow, and perhaps after that they can give us Power and Lappin... or Pike... or Notting or Bradshaw or Copeland.

        Sigh.

Meh... six of Notting, half a dozen of McVeigh....

If we get 'em cheap (ie C Bolton) they'd be good for depth, but they're hardly priorites.

Notting would be a very good midfielder/flanker for us and would be a regular in any side except for the Lions. The main problem is his knee soreness.
Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.

Notting is a good player, for his age and position I see why not.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the established wisdom (including that of Paul Roos) that we need a couple of in-and-under on-ballers and a KP defender?

                  Which of these describes Notting?

Just a thought, but how on earth have Brisbane such a strong list. Even the players they don't want are good and they lost a very good player last year with Des Headland leaving for the west. Was Andrew Ireland involved in their recruiting? I know they picked up eight or nine players when Fitzroy folded, but somebody has a serious eye for footballing talent up there.

I think a bloke called Robert Walls had a lot to do with it.

Neither, but does that mean we need two specific players and two players only?

It does if you have limited assets of value that you are willing and/or able to trade.

They do have a very strong list but I sometimes wonder how good some of their second and third tier players (like Notting, Copeland, even the Scotts and Pike) would look playing in an ordinary team. I reckon that playing alongside such champs as Voss, Leppitsch, Black etc gives lesser players such confidence that they are able to play to a higher level than they might otherwise be capable of.

There clearly are some gems on their list struggling to get a game, and if you can pick someone up ultra-cheap, like Bolton, then fantastic. But I'd be wary of a player like Bradshaw, for example, because he'd come at a relatively high price and suspect he might not be so good in a lesser team.
