Does anyone know how long Roos' contract extends for?

It was a three year contract ... one year down (almost), two to go ... and hopefully many more (cos that will mean he's been super successful!)

The man was born to coach. I hope he becomes to Sydney what Sheedy has become to sndon.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

I reckon the Swans need an innovative coach, one that allows the media to mike up his runner. One with innovative ideas like rotating a perfectly good captain with someone (anyone) else. One that can hold 3 or 4 positions at the club - and get paid for them all. You need a coach with no charisma and no game day experience. Enter, Grant Thomas.

Let's do a deal, we'll take your succesful, charismatic and respected Roos off your hands in a straight swap for GT ... Please!!! Pretty Please!!!

Yeah whats the deal with Grant Thomas ??
some sainters seem to love him, but he seems like a liability to me. Any coach who could not get that list into a final must have somthing fantastic brewing in the near future or no future at all.
If they don't win at least one final next year i think he has to go.

I am not judging Thomas on all the innuendo and guesswork that surrounds him.
            I don't know him.
All you can really judge him on is how his team has played.
In the end, that's all coaches are ever judged on.
And I though he really hit his straps as a coach last year.

he has St.Kilda playing some killer footy, and with such potential on that list, I'd be expecting a top 8 finish next year....

St Kilda are a good coach away from winning a flag or two. Look at their list..

Are you kidding? The guy is a fruit (eight children!!!!) and any team with a President with a George Michael beard who does the Paulk Licurias (tears that is) is a worry.

Saints played some appalling football this year (let alone last), SCG July remember, and they have " had their snouts in the trough of top talent for three years" (quote Patrick Smith I hate to, but I love that one!), Grant Thomas should be a netball coach!

Speaking of their Pres, Mr Buttress, his extreme wealth reminds me of Ferdinand Marcos. You know the wealthy "President/Prime Minister" surrounded in insipid conditions.

Saints on the financial brink run by Richie Rod.

As for Grant Thomas, self-appointment will always be the kink in his credibility as coach no matter where Saints will finish on the ladder.

                    I totally agree.

This is where your argument comes unstuck. Actually the Saints played some awsome footy this year.

I believe in the idea that lower clubs should get early picks.
I also I believe that the Swans need extra support by the AFL to help grow our game in a state that has the largest population but with only one team.
So, I wouldn't carry on about snouts in troughs as some ppl will remind you of the extra support Swans get from the AFL.

They did play some awesome footy, especially late in the season against very mediocre opposition. It is also correct that they played some terrible football earlier in the year. There were a couple of good wins in there - eg the Brisbane and Adelaide victories - but a lot to get right as well.

As Liz said, they played some great football against some of the ordinary teams, and some crap football earlier in the year. I agree with Diego - a new coach (and probably a ruckman also) would push them close to a flag.

Is that not true, how many top picks.....how many wins, how awful their style most of the time........ Swans non-football state, how much help?

Anyhow, we could go on for hours about all that.

All I'm saying is I respect Roos and wish him all the success he deserves. I also mentioned I'm not that happy with our coach. I love my Sainters, so please respect that, as I respect your love of the Swans. In all my posts here I've never put the Swans down. To quote from PhatPryk is like a red rag to a bull as far as a Sainter is concerned.

Back on subject.... Congratulations Roos, the Swans could do alot worse, if they're lucky you'll be around for the long haul.

Apologies, no disrespect intended, but I feel strongly that your coach doesn't cut it. Point taken on Patrick Smith, I did say I hated to quote him, he's no pal of the Swannies (headline GF Day 1996 - 'Swans Broke' or was it 'Bankrupt'!).

The Buttercup/Thomas combo is a real worry, and I stand by Saints playing an awful brand of football for much of the past two years, despite a young gun list!
