Tingay was picked up in the pre-season, I thought.

Every club has a couple in their closet - Sydney no exception.

Pick 31 (2nd round) for Simon Hawking and Brett Green wasn't a success in hindsight (irrespective of the fact that Black was taken with pick 31 - Sydney have said they wouldn't have chosen him anyway).

Mark Kinnear with pick 4 back in the 1995 ND.

More recently, I guess there are still big question marks over our second round picks in 1999 and 2000 - Stevens and Ablett.

And of course injuries were cruel to the 4th pick in the 1998 ND - Fitzy. Not sure whether that makes it a dud choice or not.

Overall, though, the record isn't too bad.

Which goes to show that talk of us trading badly and using these players as an example is not correct as the circumstances need to be taken in to context.

Anyone got a player where we have in the last 5 years traded or used a 1st or 2nd round draft pick on a dud to back up the claim we have not drafted well?

You only have to look as far as Richmond and Kane Petifier drafted in the top 10 to see how bad drafting can get. The Crows drafted Angwin in the first round and hasn't Melbourne just delisted a first rounder from a couple of years ago this week?

In my defense I had no idea those guys were taken with late picks as I was too young I don't even know who Russel is.

Now that I know these things I can think of the Swans drafting as not that bad.

Green and Kinnear could both play and would have made the grade but just weren't interested in being professional footballers. Hawking was a serial mistake for a number of clubs.

The Crows actually took Michael Handby (who never played a game either) with their second pick because he was a mate of Angwin's. Must rank up there with the biggest balls-up in drafting history.

But these just underline how much of a lottery the national draft really is, and how risky it is to trade away quality players for early draft picks unless you know exactly what you're getting.

Well I wouldn't call him a huge mistake, after all he made it clear to us his heart wasn't in it anymore and wanted a move back to Melbourne. We then traded him to Collingwood along with pick 34 for Andrew Schauble, who has been very good for us.

What makes this deal even better was that Kinnear retired before even training with Collingwood once and Collingwood picked Leon Davis with the pick we gave them, and he hardly has been that great for them.
              Once was, now elsewhere

I have heard from a reliable source (worked closley at the club this season) that Seymour is fighting fit and ready to go for next year having had alot of alternative medical treatments throughout the year.
From what I hear he would be happy to be traded.
As a fan of Seymour's, I would prefer him to stay in Sydney.

I'd be very happy to see Seymour fit and playing for us again next year.

                    As would I.

Seymour injury free would give us good flexibility.
