Trade Week Fear

With all this talk of not wanting to give up anyone, etc, during trade week, I would be quite disappointed if we did no trading at all. It is no good trying to tread water from year to year, thinking that the team will be exactly as good next year as they were this year. It just doesn't happen. The only way to go forward is to continually improve.

Trade week is a time when there are generally opportunities to improve the list. Look at last year, with Davis and C.Bolton. I just hope that the Swans make the most of these opportunities, yet it seems that they are running out of time, and they have been very quiet until now.

I tend to agree Sharpie, not trading for trades sake so much, but new blood with some experience does shake things up and surely players need the challenges for positions.

Smart trades however are frequently kept quiet until deal is done....let's hope that's the case.

Historically, the Swans have played the trade period low key, and kept their cards well hidden until the last day. Last year's shenanigans with Davis were atypical, mostly brought about by having Eddie involved.

The Swans may not trade this year, but the fact that they are keeping it quiet doesn't mean a thing at this stage.

Yes, we could be doing a lot of trading and the media wouldnt neccesiraly know.

The mooted Carlton trade with Nicks,Warfe ,Seymour? for a low pick seemed like they were trying to free up money for a decent player.

Of the "top quality" players available I would only want Nick Stevens(seems like he wants to play for a Melbourne club though it could just be an excuse to get out of Port) or Bradshaw.Not a star but can play kp back and forward.

Mal Michael is similar to Schauble in that they are much better at fullback.Schauble's lack of pace is shown up at CHB so having two of the same players is a waste.

Cheap discards looking for an opportunity with heavily incentivised contracts are the most likely pick ups IMO.

I am a big fan of cheap discards, such as C.Bolton. Its these guys that give your team a big boost if they can cut the grade, and you dont necessarily lose anything if they dont. Thats why I'd be really happy with a guy like Notting.

Going for top quality trades means you have to give up something valuable in return, and since we dont have good position in the draft, our hands are somewhat tied in this case.

i had this fear a few days ago, and it seems we haven't just "treaded water", but instead gone backwards.

How on earth can anyone suggest that pick 45 is better, or even equal clos to beeing equal, to Stevens? I was one calling for him to be traded, but for pick 45? Come on, really! I am fuming over this.

Bigfooty Bulldogs supporters are unhappy that they traded their #19 for Koops from Freo (HBF) , and couldn't believe that Adelaide got Stevens for so cheap considering dogs are after talls. I think one of them said they would've rather used 19 on Stevens than Koops!

Too bad they aren't in charge of recruiting
