    Fox Footy Trading Places

I finally had a chance to sit down and watch the programme from friday night. Both Sheehan and Shaw were at a loss to explain what benefit it was to the Swans to basically exchange Stevens for draft pick 45. Why couldn't we have traded him to the dogs for pick 6? A retorical question as I know there were other issues with this deal.

They said Ray Hall would have probably been good for the Swans except the deal couldn't be done and they ran out of time. Notting wanted to stay with Brisbane.

They interviewed Scott Stevens who is in Perth and he said that he had a discussion with the Club before the B&F and it was a mutual agreement for him to be traded. Seems no one in the west was interested except for Adelaide. He seemed very happy with how the Swan's treated him.

They showed the top 10 picks and I couldn't believe the Swans not trading up for Kepler Bradley. What a star in the making. He looked as good as Reiwoldt from the short footage they showed of him.

Diddums to collingwood for missing out on Nick stevens.
In memory of my little Staffy - Dicey, 17.06.2005 to 1.12.2011- I'll miss you mate.

    Scott Stevens for pick six???!!!!!!!!

Oh yeah - and we should have demanded Carlton's priority pick for Daniel McPherson before he retired.

Two slight problems with your theories:

      1) No one would have given us anything more than pick #45 for Stevens, let alone pick #6

      2) Who did you plan to trade to get a pick within the top 3. As Keppler Bradley will more than likely go then, I would have thought only O'loughlin, Goodes and maybe Kennelly would have got us pick #3, were you prepared to trade any one of the un touchables to get him?

We seem to often on this board seriously overrate our players, yes we have a promising group of young players and some of our middle age players are starting to play the football they are capable of, but to suggest that Stevens is anything more than a pick slightly under #45 is just way off the mark.

If Lochlan Veale is worth pick 6 Stevens is worth pick 1!

But Veale and Jade Rawlings is worth pick #6

Got to hand it to the doggies that was a masterstroke.

Also got pick #1 & #4 now to use which helps as well. Meant they could aim a little higher to secure Rawlings knowing that they had them in the kit bag to use.

If Nick Davis is worth a #20 then #45 is about where Scott Stevens belongs.

Yeah Lachlan Parmigiana was a shifty, for Stevo we get an extra pick and one slightly earlier, what if Goodes'y had gone off pick 41!

You never know if he had to go that was it, I would not try and rationalise this too much, I know we all have footy withdrawal symptoms but........

I thought that one of the points with Collingwood going nuts over the Nick Davis trade (and they went nuts about everything to do with it) was that Sydney got away with murder picking up Davis for only #20. Or maybe you were being sarcastic now I think of it

Not that I am suggesting that Scott Stevens would have had market value of much more that #45 anyway.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

Maybe Stevens could be traded for a bit higer pick, maybe between 30 and 40, but not pick 6!

True, Collingwood did go nuts over it but in the end I think Sydney paid about the going odds for Davis. Sure he has the talent but he's not a KPP or dominating midefielder just a skillful forward who converts his opportunities when they come (although he can if he wants to put in the hard hards play in the midfield).

I suppose in the end all I was saying about Scott Stevens was IMHO worth the pick #45 and advancement of two places we got for him. It was not like the two WA clubs were beating down our doors with offers so that would have to tell you something doesn't it ?
