    "Boxing Barry aims to..." (Telegraph)

    International Rules snippet:

Boxing Barry aims to put doubt into Irish

Sydney Swans forward Barry Hall is the man Australia are using in a bid to intimidate Ireland ahead of the first Test at Subiaco Oval tonght.

Coaching staff have let the Irish group know all about Hall and the fact he wants to be a boxer when his AFL career is over. Selector Steven Silvagni warned one Irishman that "if something starts, you don't want to be near Barry".

Hall, a Test debutant, said: "It could put some doubt in the back of their minds."

Anyone else find this highly amusing? Afterall, Adam Schneider did say he was just a big girl!

That's our problem, even the umpires and tribunal beleive that @@@@.

This is despite the bloke actually being a nice guy, which is the impression you get from some of the comments of his team mates.

It's a boy thing - but I'd love to see BBB, Carey and Glenn Archer all put together in a boxing ring....Apparently the Roos used to sometimes box as part of their training and no-one could touch those 2....along with Barry who undoubtedly has the talent to fight it would be great viewing....

I love the international rules matches.
The Irish hate being tackled and knocked over so they blue.
Silvagni's comment I presume was made in that context.

I don't know what the rules are regarding reporting but the Aussies don't muck around with this jersy grabbing nonsense they give as good as they get.It is beautiful to watch.

As a well known leaguie would say"Bring back the biff"

I can recall from somewhere when Archer had his fist cocked to hit Carey he was asked by someone did you feel like hitting him........and Archers reply was sort of but he would have beaten the @@@@ out of me.

So Bazza and Carey toe to toe would make some interesting viewing me would thinks

Don't you guys recall the newspaper article during the season when Barry was asked about the amount of time he spends in boxing training as part of his fitness regimen? He said that he was committed to the Swans for some years yet but would be interested in taking up boxing seriously afterwards. They the reporter spoke to Barry's trainer who said that he had huge natural talent as a boxer and could be in the running for a heavyweight title.

I suspect that Carey would get well done over in a boxing match against BBB. But Carey could always hide behind the goalposts, taking marks out of bounds, and whileing away the time banging his knee against the post. Just as he did in the 2003 season in fact.

I think the coaching staff were overrating Barry. He definitely has talent as a boxer, but he has learnt to control himself and avoid supensions at the tribunal. However, no matter how hard he tries, he still has a reputation of being known as Big Bad Bazza (if you listened to Channel 9 on Friday night, they called Barry that several times).Barry's reputation might help him with his future boxing career!

Cheers NMWBloods, Yeah these days I do. Since moving back to Melb 4 years ago, I've been doing Flash and Websites. AussierulesOK is my way of marrying my love for AFL, comedy and web technologies. I was a recording engineer/producer/muso in Syd/Mittagong before that. Glad you liked the card. Thanks for the encouragement
