My concern is not the money but the fact we are now down to 5 games in Melbourne with nothing on the horizon to suggest that it will increase. It seems the AFL is intent on keeping most of the Melbourne blockbusters for a few teams at the expense of others.

So on one hand the draft and salary cap have evened up the comp to a point but the rich keep getting richer, the poor keep getting poorer, and clubs like Melbourne, StKilda etc.play more interstate games, which in turn waters down their higher draft picks, and at the same time limiting clubs like Sydney and Brisbane who have good supporter bases, from playing more games in Melbourne.

It is all smoke and mirrors and I would love to know whether our club tried really hard to get more games down here (even 1 more would have been something) or was it purely lip service and telling us what we wanted to hear.

Your argument is all over the place. Above you are talking about non-Swans games, now you are talking Swans games.

You however can see 12 games a year for around the same cost as we see 4/5.

How do you figure that? This thread has already established the average cost per game for memberships is quite similar, hence the cst to see 12 games in Sydney is more than double the cost to see 5 in Melbourne. In Sydney it is $175 for 12 games = $15/game. In Melbourne it is $79 for 5 games = $16/game.

he was a champion for the swans and if he can half as good a job off the field as he did on it , then we will be travelling nicely.

How do the blockbusters affect our games in Melbourne?

They don't seem to be playing significantly more interstate games. All teams play 4-6 interstate games.

How does it "water down" their higher draft picks?

Doesn't seem to affect Brisbane - they have 6 games in Melbourne again. How is the above affecting us so that we are only in Melbourne 5 times?

Well, they've already said it was third on their list of priorities, so unlikely to get satisfied. As has been discussed before, the only options to get more games in Melbourne was to change the WB game.

What do premierships, and membership numbers have to do with what most Melbourne members on here are complaining about??? I couldn't give two hoots if membership numbers went up by 5000, I just want value for money and a chance to see my team play in my hometown more offen. Winning Premierships and getting more members into the club won't solve that.

As I said before most of you out of towners are getting us wrong, we don't have a problem with Morwood or the new push to improve our lot down here, what we are complaining about is what we have now and what we would like to see happen with Morwood at the helm.

Is it too much to ask that our membership package is fair and the incentives in it are delivered for once, like maybe the club newsletter getting to us more than twice a season and not a month or more late. Is it too much to ask that we have more than 2 aftermatch functions for once, is it too much to ask for the club to take note of the issue regarding games at Optus Oval and Skilled Stadium were we have to pay extra money on top of our membership just to get a seat, when we are promised free entry to "5 games"

Maybe instead of bagging us because we dare to complain about things, maybe understand the issues involved and then comment because most of you love to compare things to what you get in Sydney, when in Melbourne things have been done differently for years.

I'm happy things are looking up and I'm happy that thing should change, but I'm not happy with smart-arse Sydney-siders who like to think we have no right to complain about anything.

Sure you have the right to complain and you have exercised that right ad nauseum. And sure, you have the right to carry on doing so. I just don't quite see the point, and particularly when this entails deciding that Morwood will achieve nothing as (a minority of) you seem to have decided.

No-one has said that Morwood won't achieve anything. We have just said that his task of winning over Melbourne supporters/members will be difficult as he can't give us the one thing we really want - 6 games in Melbourne!

Tony can't be judged on that until at least the draw for 2005 is released. But I get the feeling from the moves made so far that the club has decided to drop the WB game if it is at the expense of 6 games in Melbourne.

That means it is probably a dead issue anyway, but we will have to wait and see next year.

As for the other things Robbie has pointed out I agree with him. But the club did try and address most of those issues at one stage but it feel in a heap when the members were not forthcoming (I am talking about our home base at the Albert Park Hotel and being able to book pre booked seats for members at games a small cost)

and yeah , some of our melbourne based supporters are specialists.
and as lizz added , you do have the right to complain, but is never endless.
memberships are vital to the club's revenue and ultimate survival, yet we have less than 5000 melbourne members, yet estimates of 15000 swans fans attending melbourne games.
this is part the reason why the swans originally left melbourne and relocated to sydney - low support and no revenue.

Thats low, and shows a complete lack of knowledge our what really happened. Maybe look at the fact we have less than 4500 members, yet have 15000 attending games, the shows that something is wrong or that at the very least that the membership packages on offer aren't value for money in the eyes on these fans.

I agree Robbie that the membership package should be as affordable and value for money as possible, but the biggest factor should be, if those extra 10,000 are turning up to all the games in Melbourne that money is going to the opposition not us.

Simple solution to this is to buy and membership and make sure the money goes to our club not Collingwood or Essendon etc.

I think he did look at that fact - "yet we have less than 5000 melbourne members, yet estimates of 15000 swans fans attending melbourne games."

He simply drew a different conclusion.
