Tony Morwood just dropped me a line...

I'm gonna be suspisious here and guess that all Vic members got one thongh lol

Basically letting us know he's there and is looking to the future.

'Target 10,000' is the theme, and there are memberships with gaurenteed GF ticktets on offer

No way I'm typing it out, because I am a guy, and don't type very well of fast.
I'll see if I can find a copy online for the pleasure of Sydneysiders who I'm guessing didn't get it

Me like, Me like

There is no reason why this can't be done. Sure we aren't happy about the amount of games we get down here, nor many other things (which I won't go into because this will again become a thread with Melbournians attacking Sydney-siders and vice versa)

While there has been talk of boycotts by some on this board, I call upon every Melbournian on this board to join up for next year regardless of your thoughts on weather the packages offered are what you deem "value for money", that your not happy about the amount of games, or just life in general.

We complain about not having enough games, well lets show the club and the AFL that they MUST give us more games by having 10,000 paid up members in this state alone.

Enough of the crap that has gone on in the previous weeks from many of us (including myself), lets get on board and lets get 10,000 members. So if anyone knows about any Swans fans without memberships, talk them in to join up with us next season and lets once again prove we are a force in Melbourne.

Here's a suggestion for the club, and it'll help this campaign as well.

They should get a commitment from the AFL that if we can get 10,000 members in Victoria, they'll guarantee us 7 games in Melbourne for the next three years, as a compensation for the two consecutive years of farce.

Sound fair? If we prove how numerous we are, we get games in return. Now tell me, what's wrong with that? I'm sure someone will be able to tell me how unreasonable that is.

Lets get 10,000 first before we start demanding things, sure its a good idea and one that could help us get the target, but I think its too early to start demanding more matches, we have to prove we can get these numbers and keep them first.

Did you not read what I said?

I said IF we get the 10,000 target, they should have a commitment in place for that possibility.

10,000 would mean we'd have over half the total that Victorian based clubs Melbourne, the Kangaroos and Bulldogs regularly get. If that doesn't deserve a commitment for 7 games, I don't know what will.

I think it's a bit premmie to DEMAND extra games, we're in no position to dictate terms (Not suggesting that you're saying it in those exact words Charlie). What the club CAN do however is to keep bringing the topic up, combined with getting extra members. That way, we can turn around at the end of the season and say "hey look, we've got all these extra members on board, how about helping us out with a game or two extra?"

Basically I reckon we concentrate on one (getting more members) before the other (getting promises for more games).

177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out....

Simple. If the AFL want us to get members, they should help provide an incentive. This suggestion would do that... but more to the point, it actually DOES something - not like all the political mumbo-jumbo we get every year that does sweet **** all.

I think if the membership base here is big enough, the AFL will respect that and try to get us another game or 2.

Good to see something happen in a positive way for a change.

BTW, Swans Melb family day will be on 7th December.

IMO they keep on getting better and better.
Last years was really fantastic.

I have a big party in Shepparton the night before and don't normally drive until midday when the alcohol wears off!

I've never been to a family day before, so I'm hoping that I can go on the 7th. It was fantastic that Tony Morwood sent a letter, saying what they hope to do. Its a start.

CTS, being a guy is no excuse for not being able to type!

The Swans are coming again in 2004 and we'd love you to be part of the journey.

I'm writing in the first instance to introduce myself and secondly to give you and update on our plans for 2004.

Under new coach, Paul Roos, we always planned to rebuild in 2003. It's fair to say we achieved that and a whole lot more. Memorable wins against the like of Collingwood and reigning premiers Brisbane, and who could forget the qualifying final against Port Adelaide.

My appointment signals our commitment to Melbourne.

More recently the Swans have demonstrated their commitment to growing the Melbourne supporter base with my appointment. For me it's great to be more involved with the Club that has meant so much to me for so long. For the record, I started playing with South Melbourne back in 1977 at Lakeside Oval before heading north to Sydney in 1982. In 1989 - 229 games later - I retired with many fond memories and friendships made.

Like many of you, I have only "red and white" in my veins. The regular sea of "red and white" at games doesn't go unnoticed and is very much appreciated by the players.

The Swans have proudly retained a strong supporter base in Melbourne despite the majority of our games being played in Sydney. We appreciate the loyalty you have shown over the years and whilst we will never control the AFL fixturing of games, I will endeavour to do all I can to lobby the AFL to play more games in Melbourne.

As part of our strategy we are planning to significantly grow our Melbourne membership -- campaign "Target 10,000" aims to double our current membership to over 10,000! In the coming weeks we will be mailing to you the 2004 Swans Membership Pack.

We're introducing some new benefits for 2004, including a new Premiership Club category that offers a guaranteed Grand Final Ticket should you wish to purchase one. Numbers are strictly limited so you'll need to get in quickly! In addition, for the first time members will be able to renew memberships electronically, making it easier than ever before to join the swans.

2004 promises to be an exciting year and now more than ever the Swans want your support. It's your club - be part of it - and together let's make the "red and white army" as strong as ever before!

Yours sincerely

Tony Morwood
General Manager, Melbourne.

P.S. Make sure you put Sunday 7th December in your diary as a date with the Swans. We're currently planning a family day and will be sending you further details shortly.
To all those people who waited 72 years to see a South Melbourne/Sydney Swans premiership HERE IT IS!!
