    Mcglone

just saw on AFL.com (team lists), that scott has been delisted from the rookie list.
It is a big mistake not to give that kid a shot I reckon.
What does a Rookie have to do to get a kick in this team ?? he dominated the 2's a number of times. I wonder what the other young players who watched him dominate as they played along side him in the reserves, while Rowen warfe was dawdelling back there as well , but with not as good results? Do they now think - " Oh Well , If I work my ass of and show some class in this team i could really do well". Or do they think "if I am an average player who sucks up to and gets on well with the coaching panel for one reason and another, then I will be given oportunities way beyond the pale, at which point i will be able to take it easy cos they will never drop me no matter who good any young jack ass is doin' below me"
Or do they just think "oh well..."
Complacancey is the devil for footy teams.
If you don't cut the dead wood, promote those who have performed well and pull those who don't, then you get a bunch of kids who are not sure of the rules that they live under and they Bulk at the final hurdle.
Somone better hurry up and win us a ****ing premeirship, thats all I've got to say !!

Bevan was the only rookie retained. It will be interesting to see if any other clubs take a punt with McGlone

I'm a little disappointed to be honest, i thought we went into last season with a godd quality rookie list. For some reason we don't seem to have the same success with it as other clubs

I am starting to think that I am not much of a judge of young football talent. I thought that Scott Sevens had great potential as a backman and he gets traded to Adelaide for pick 45 . I saw Scott McGlone play very well in the 2s and I thought that he was a chance to make the Senior list but he is now delisted .

Maybe someone at the Swans management hates the name Scott.

I think there is a grave danger going on here.
Namley : when a new coach takes over a team there is often a honeymoon period in which the players really give him a go and play a lot better for it. This has definatley been the case with the swans under Roos.
What also often happens in this early period, is that the coaches turn the list over, at least moderatley and somtimes heavily.
The Swans held off turning the list last year, and now this year we are holding onto basically the same team that performed so badley under Eade . So the very same minds and Pyches are in that team. No dead Wood has been cut (only old champions retired and young players delisted) this is a recipe for disaster.
If the Swans did indeed play above themselves this year, then any form slump amoungst a team that has not rewarded effort (ie scott mcglone), and let mediocrity fly in the face of change (Warfe), could be a terrible milstone around their necks.
In other words what I am saying is that old habits die hard in a team of footballers. A list needs to be turned over to re- enthuse and grow. The Swans havn't done this and should they fall into a slump next year, they could be in real trouble.
This is a big mistake in my opinion, and I await the resluts eagerly. I don't want to be a porfit of doom, but the swans do have a habit of dissapointing when expectastions are high, and expectations for next year are already very high.
They have failed to be be cruel to be kind (ie cut dead wood), and as a result have sent the wrong message to the playing list and let go at least 2 talented young players who both had the potentiol to lift this team to higher levels and both were putting in very good efforts to learn the game. If this team goes backwards this year I know why, and who I blame.
No AFL team improves by trying to hold on exactley to a formula that is almost working. Teams must improve in personal and good coaches always reward effort and form .

this is exactly the type of posts that we saw after the mott delisting debacle, i would suggest that they know best! and you should have trust in their judgment rather than your opinion...

Spot on Penga! (and I'm not a mole from the Swans Admin Dept).

I never saw McGlone play, so I can't comment on whether he had the potential to play at the highest level. The SWANS obviously thought he didn't although they wouldn't have taken the decision lightly.

This idea that we are forgoing a youth policy to hang on to 'dead wood' is crap. Remember we'll have another set of a half dozen or so fresh youngsters in a month's time, in addition to the Thewlis, Malcescis and Mcveighs etc who will be pressing for selection next year - so there is plenty of youth around.

Glad to see young Bevan on the rookie list. Seldomly gets a wrap on this site - at least from the MLB redandwhiteonliners. IMHO, doesn't need to lift his game much to make a real impact this year - but we'll have to wait and see.

I must say I am disappointed for Scooter. He was the best on ground in most matches this year. The only thing I thought was probably holding him back was that he is slightly built.

I think he can play and play well, but whether he could step up - who knows?

Excuse my ignorance, but what does MLB stand for? It's a new one to me.

Ah... you mean Melbourne. Well, we have an excuse for that - none of us even know what he looks like. We get absolutely no opportunity to see the reserves down here, now that they've withdrawn from Port Melbourne and gone into the Canberra league.

He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

I have been watching Ryan Crawford and thought he was really good - never given a chance to play in the seniors. We must be going to get a few new ones - with only one rookie left.

Is it possible that McGlone can be redrafted in the ND, and if not there, in the rookie draft? Are the Swans administration taking a punt that maybe they pick him up again? Im not sure what point there is to this, but I cant understand why we would delist him - especially if many of the people who have seen him play say that he has alot of talent.

There is only 4 spots in the senior list, so if Im right and the swans want to redraft him, he'd either be taken with our third pick, or be placed again on the rookie list.

Im sure I've heard of players being redrafted by clubs after being delisted. Paul Salmon or Steven Alessio for essendon, IIRC.

someone can correct me (Will knows about this rule and mentioned it in an earlier thread), but a rookie can only be on the list for a certain period before they need to be promoted or delisted. I'm not sure if they are delisted whether they can be added back to the rookie list again. I know Heath was and Gerrad Bennett was too, the circumstances around those may be different to Scooter?

It's a big chance the Swans take by not promoting him, delisting and hoping to pick him up again in the draft, especially if another club is interested in him. I guess if this is the plan, they are leaving their options open for the draft.

Janpa - I also was watching Ryan and thought he was coming along nicely. Given our comments on defenders and the lack of, unless we pick up someone special I think we may have made the wrong choice here.

But as it's been pointed out, we don't tknow the inner workings and Roos obviously knows what's going on.
