Can Goodes improve again next year ?

Do you think he is ready to go one better and add intra-seasonal consistancey to his list of acheivments. Or will he get the brownlow woobles?

You mean he wasn't consistent this year? He was far and away our most consistent performer all year. But yes, he can still improve. He's only 24 in January - he's got his best 5 years of peak football about to start! There's more Brownlows coming Goodesy's way...

The true test of Goodesy's champion qualities will be how he deals with the extra attention from the opposition. Those coaches will come up with ideas about how to negate his influence. It will be interesting to see how he deals with it, in much the same way as it will be interesting to watch how Roos adapts the Swans game plan as the opposition work out how to overcome the current one.

i think goodesy is nowhere near to realising his true potential yet... we have only seen the tip of the iceberg yet... there is quite a bit in his game that he can improve, ie mainly his foot skills, he'll be a match winner!

To win a Brownlow, you have to be consistent for most of the year, which IMO he did. Goodes was getting a bit of attention from opposing clubs later on in the season, but it will be much worse now because of the Brownlow. I think Goodes can improve, due to the fact that he's still quite young, but think of what type of player he'll be if he can improve!

I think footyhead is talking about over the course of 2 or more seasons.
            Once was, now elsewhere

I don't think that is the case. What you need is to turn in a blinder once every 3 games plus a couple of other good ones.

I think Goodesy can improve markedly. I think he had a consistent season and played really well, but he is still young and definitely has the potential to step up more as he learns the game even better (remember he as a late comer to football). Whether he can improve noticeably in 2004 remains the big question though.

All he needs to do next year is play well.
As well as he did this year.

Doesn't need to win a Brownlow again.
                Or a B&F
Just do his job, remain consistant, and I would class that as improving on this year.

He has time to get better and develop, but next year is the critical one IMO

But then isn't that the epitome of consistency?

No - it's maybe 8-9 good games out of 22. What if the other 13-14 are really poor - that's major inconsistency.

I would think having made his mark on the AFL he'll go on to even bigger things. I don't think the other coaches will be able to negate him. He's not the sort of player who can be pidgeon holed and "worked out". The guy's a dead set champ. You lucky rats

We're going to get a lot more BM's someone in another thread has already stated Kennelly at his best will win a Brownlow.

I don't think Goodesy's non-vote getting games were crap. They were fine, he had a couple of average games but no where near 13...maybe 2.

It would be too much to expect hm to dominate the way he does 100% of the time.

I reckon he is better than Steins or Wynd in their Brownlow years and I loved the ways those 2 blokes went about their footy!

Besides he is difficult to pigeon hole. I mean Bucks and Roo won their medals from the midfield. Which possy did Goodesy win his from?

I knew someone was going to say that and I should've put in the disclaimer. In no way whatsover did I make any comments at all as to what Goodes' season was like. I simply made the general comment that winning a Brownlow doesn't require consistency through a season.

IMO Goodes is a very good player who is going to be a GREAT player - and I mean Matthews/Ablett class.
And for other teams to give him more attention, who will receive less attention? Hall? Davis? O'Loughlin? O'Keefe?
                              What a bonanza!
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)
