After just one season, he's being used as the spearhead of the membership campaign for the next year!!!

That photo brings back some great memories...it also does a good job of showcasing Sydney in general - great weather, devoted supporters, and exciting (and excited) players. The other photo I love is the one placed as a banner at the top of the screen at the Sydney's homepage. I would love to know what is so funny about Maxfield.

agreed! this cheeky photo is a cracker, and I too would love to know the "real" story behind it!

did he pull out his "I Hate Collingwood" Badge to show the lads, or something ;-)

        cheers

that is close to my all time favourite sporting photo
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

Someone on here must know or should be able to find out what was going on in that photo.

I think it was after winning that trophy by beating Essendon at Homebush. The Marn Grook thing or something. I think all the players realised what a trivial piece of silverware it is.

Yes, I found out, it was playing on my, so at the Best and Fairest, after meeting one of the players, had to ask, it wasn't actually funny, well it doesn't sound as funny as they all think it is, all that happened from my re count, was that the team had 'dared' Maxi to say 'strewth' during his acceptance speech at the Essendon match, and when he did, apparently it was really really funny!
Maybe there's an underlying humour in saying 'strewth' or maybe coz it's just not Maxi?!
Then again the person who told me was not in that great a state of mind.

hahaha, thats a crackup! strewth is such an 'alf from home & away' saying.. what would have been funnier than this? getting stewie to say "ya flamin' mongrel" (in reference to the bummers, of course!) when he was up there...

Maybe it was one of those jokes where you had to be there.

Also, possibly an "Aussie" thing, because if you look closely at that photo there's just one player who doesn't appear to be particularly amused. Maybe he didn't get it...

Well I was interested to notice they used it on our b&f tickets, and that certain someone looks uh... well represented shall we say... a few of us picked up on it, and since then, it's been torso shots or he's just not there at all! hehehe!

I too was intrigued as to what was so funny and have studied the photo many times. My theory is, if you look at Stuies right hand it looks like he may be giving the old "bird" rub along the nose to the guys on the way back to them.

going back to a certain "naughty girl's" theory about hard-ons, has anyone got an original shot of this image to prove it false or true???

or am i just being a dirty poof again??

                          cheers

He just kicked a ripper goal in the last quarter against Brisbane. And was celebrating in style.

Of great interest is a little face at the mouth of screen. (Hint-he is wearing a black cap & polo under a red scarf. And is opening his mouth so wide that he'll be asking Oral B for a Flip Top Head. )
