I am guessing that as Roosy had a crack at Morrison during trade week, he is pretty keen to get him. As such, it would not surprise if we picked him with our second pick in the national draft - if he is still available.

If so, he would be the fourth current son of South.

In my view a ready-made key position player like Morrison would be a better risk than an untried 18 year old at pick 29 in this year's draft.

yeah its a hard one to pick given that he has been on a list for 4 years but has only really been playing in the qafl

i'm all for taking the punt if he's available, but i'd probably prefer to wait until the 3rd round

it's interesting that he nominated for the national draft and didn't wait for the psd, if he had he'd be no chance to end up at the swans

We've been here before, but he'd actually be the 5th. We already have Sean Dempster, Stephen Doyle, Heath James and Nick Davis.

Unless you're going to quibble about the distinction between South and Sydney, that is...

You have to remember that his father is still very bitter towards the club and made it well known when he was about to be drafted the first time that he didn't want his son to play for us. Now I haven't heard anymore on this, so I'm not going to make a decision on this issue alone - for all I know his father might have changed his feelings towards the club or at least accepted that his son could end up with us.

Now I didn't hear a thing about Roos being after him in the trade period, nor have I heard a thing since. In any case he is more a CHF than a CHB (but he can and has played both positions). Now I think he would be an OK depth player in the Scott Stevens role (a position I feel will be looked after late in the draft), not the answer to our weakness down back. But amazing things have happened and I won't say he couldn't do the job, just that I don't think he can in the way we want him (or any other K/P defender for that matter), but he can be very serviceable in a Craig Bolton-ish sort of way.

Also the only piece of news I have heard on Morrison before today was that he wanted to play in Melbourne and was a target of the Cats. But that was before he norminated for the National Draft, so that does open the playing field a bit.

Now if we did go for him in the draft, I very much doubt that we would pick him up at 29, because very few Delisted players are picked up before pick 50 these days and I think the club would be better served long term to pick up the best rookie available at that pick. If he was still available at our 3rd pick I would still pass him in, but I would think he would still be available then with our 4th pick and then and only then would I look at it. However I believe he could still very well be available at our 5th pick and I would be all for him being picked up then if the club decides to use our 5th pick and not the PSD (which I believe was the plan until Ray Hall re-signed with the Tigers, now its up in the air.

Overall, yes he could be a good value pick up late in the draft, but to go for him at 29 would be very crazy and something I doubt is even under consideration.

Given that our 3rd and 4th picks are 45 and 47 it really wouldn't matter which we used if we wanted him (and he was still available) unless we thought one other club (Port??) particularly wanted him.

and I don't think Port want him, I would mainly pass him in at 45, in case we felt the rookie player we would then go for at 47 if we took Morrison at 45 was a chance to end up in Port. In any case I think he'll still be available at our 5th Pick and if don't have another player in mind I don't see why we don't pick him up.

No I am not going to "quibble", just state the fact that we were not called 'South' when Davis played, so Morrison could be the fourth current son of South. This has a special meaning for those of us who have followed the club before it relocated to Sydney.

He would be the fifth son of Swan if that makes you happy.

and Craig Davis really only filled in as assistant coach. Much more recognised as a Pie player where he played over 100 games. I think we should stick to the South tag.
