    Malthouse spotted in Strahan (tas)

A close friend of mine recently spotted Malthouse in Strahan.........which is quite interesting considering Billy Morrison is born and bred in Strahan and his parents still live there.

It will be interesting to see if they draft him.........this time last year he was considered a certainty to be top 10 but he has been injured most of the year.

Otther Tassie boys to look out for in the draft

    Alex Gilmour

Has been playing senoir Football for Wynyard for two seasons and played a handfull of games for Tasmania including finals in the VFL and from all accounts was very impressive would be really happy if we could snag this guy as he oozes class.

    Brett Robinson

Has played senoir footy with burnie and Tasmania in the VFL.
Is a ball magnet and an outstanding athlete having been given tuff tagging jobs on AFL experienced players in the VFL . Only thing that will go against him is his lack of height if not drafted a certainty to end up on someone's Rookie list.

here is some more info on the guys from the AFL phantom draft and who they may go to

    22. Geelong ? Bill Morrison
    (Tassie Mariners) 6 June 1986, 193cm, 90kg

Another intriguing selection in this year?s National AFL Draft will be the whereabouts of Morrison. An outstanding tall, key forward, Morrison was a member of the AIS/AFL academy squad in 2003, but injured his shoulder against Ireland in the under 17 series, which forced him to miss the rest of the year. His rating early in 2003 was right up there among the best, but he remains one of the tantalising prospects of this year?s meeting. He kicked nine goals on debut for the North Hobart seniors at just 14 and is one of those players that ?could be anything?. Clubs are aware of his ability, but after an injury-riddled year, it will be interesting to see where he lands. The Lions are reported to be interested in him, as a possible replacement for when Lynch retires, but because of injuries, Spaanderman could be their preferred option. Hawthorn is also keen, but could just miss out at No.25, while Geelong is continuing to bolster their big-man brigade. Due to the nature of his year, he could fall anywhere from a first-round selection to the back-end of the draft, but he is certainly one to watch out for.

    49. Brisbane Lions ? Alex Gilmour
    (Tassie Mariners) 29 June 1986, 180cm, 68kg

An impressive young midfielder who has stepped up to higher levels of football throughout his junior football career and handled it with aplomb. This was shown during the 2003 season when he played VFL football for Tasmania. Gilmour has firmed as a strong candidate to be drafted in recent times, while there is an outside chance that he might even be selected in the second round. One of the best young Tasmanians in the draft, Gilmour missed this year?s National AFL under 18 championships due to injury, but made his presence felt at the National AFL Draft camp, when he achieved top ten results in the agility, 20-metre sprint and the right-leg running vertical jump. A smart footballer, Gilmour can win plenty of the ball and has been linked to Richmond, Port Adelaide and the Brisbane Lions and could be in the mix for the Lions with possibly their last pick of the draft.

    72. Carlton ? Brett Robinson
    (Tassie Mariners) 4 December 1985, 178cm, 76kg

A genuine footballer, Robinson is a hard-at-the-ball midfielder who possesses a fine work ethic and the ability to get the job done. He was outstanding at this year?s National AFL under 18 championships when he racked up over 70 disposals in three games. He was the Tassie Mariners captain and his efforts in the carnival earned him the most valuable player award for Tasmania. Robinson also played for the Tasmanian side in the VFL in 2003, while he won the Mariners? best and fairest in their final year as a 17-year-old. He has caught the eye of Carlton with his hard-working approach, which could possibly lead to him being a late selection in the draft.

As a priority, we need more Tasmanians now Cressa's gone. Has Morrison ever played in Queenstown?

Saw him interviewed on Foxfooty - mentioned he'd started his career on the legendary gravel ground at Queenstown.

And as everyone pointed out - youd think he would be good at keeping his feet then!

I went to St Josephs in Rosebery for a couple of years ('80,'81). There were no Swans supporters at school back then, everyone was mad for the Roos. Bastards Zeehan was superior to Rosebery as well as Queenstown according to everyone on our bus (Holdens were better than Fords too)

                    Holdens are still better.

Were you there later as well? I can probably name some names of the Zeehan kids who were there then.

Michael Coleman, Dean Bryan, Brent Ledger (spelling is dubious here)? I don't know if they went to Rosebery but I think they were in the same year level in Zeehan.

Yep Dean Bryan I played footy with a few years back ...........didn't know him before then and I think he is in W.A now

Ledger is still about in Zeehan and so is another person who may ring a bell Jason Townsend both these guys were a year above me.

Their is a Michael Coleman that lives in Rosebery but I doubt it is the same one he is about 5 foot nothing
