    Midfield draft options

It seems pretty clear that we're looking for at least a couple of genuine midfielders tomorrow - most likely using the first two picks (16 and 29) to do so.

I would have thought pick 16 would be used on one of:

    Beau Waters
    Brock McLean
    David Trotter
    Sam Butler
    Brent Stanton
    Callum Burges

Pick 29 would be hoping that that one of these were still around:

    Tim Schmidt
    Brad Symes
    Jay Nash
    Paul Richardson

Guys like Ricky Dyson, Matt Moody and Luke Peel would normally have come under close attention, but being outside types would most likely be ignored by Sydney I would have thought.

Alex Gilmour, Heath Grundy, Daniel McConnell and Kyle Archibald might be looked at if available with the later picks - they just seem to fit into the young/bottom-age recruiting policy that has emerged.

Apparently Dale Ellis (played in 2001 for the Rams as a Sydney-based player) had a good year in the SANFL this year - it wouldn't surprise me if he was an outsider for one of the last picks. I saw him play at the U/18 National Champs for NSW in 2001 (same team as LRT, Powell, Schneider, Bevan etc) and he impressed as a solid KPP.

Personally I think Butler and Schmidt are realistic chances of being picks 16 and 29 - from what I've seen they'd be decent pick-ups as well.

What's your view on Trotter Steve? Do you think the Swans should use pick 16 on him if he's still there?

From all reports he's a quality player but he sounds more like a utility than a true midfielder and I'm not convinced we need any more of these, at least not as a priority (and thus worthy of our first pick).

I wonder whether he'd be linked to Sydney by so many if he wasn't a NSW boy - and he's not really even a
"local", growing up in the Riverina and playing school and U18 footy in Melbourne (not to mention supporting the Roos, according to that article in the Hun).

I would have thought the pecking order would be:

      Waters
      McLean
      Butler

I just have a feeling that Butler will/should go a lot earlier than most people seem to think.

I don't know all that much about Trotter, but by the sounds of it he isn't really the type of player we desperately need.
