    Young Squad

I was just looking through our completed lists and came up with the following:
    • Next year 8 of our list of 38 (or 21%) have not played senior football
    • Starting next year a further 8 out of 38 (or 21%) have played fewer than 25 games

All up combined that is 16 out of 38 (or 42%) of our entire list that has either not played a game or has played fewer than 25.

Points to a very young list and one we can suspect (and Roos is already talking this way) that will be very much up and down form wise over the next couple of years. Especially if we have some injuries and are forced to play the youngsters when they are not ready or suitable for those positions or responsibility yet.

    DST,

Useful analysis and something you can point out to those who think we are top 4 shoe-ins for next year.

that means a list of 22 with more than 25 games of experience, with schneider and LRT having less than 25 games experience and nicks and warfe to not stay in the top 22 for long (IMO, anyway)... that means whoever comes in for injuries arent half bit VFL players but genuine rookies... IMO, exciting times ahead!

Yes I agree with you Penga, we have completely changed the make up of the squad over the last two years and one way or another we are in for a wild ride over the next couple of years.

But IMHO no matter how it turns out Roos is at least having a go at building a team up from scratch.

My sentiments exactly, we are in for one hell of a ride in the next two years.

Good analysis DST. I agree with Ryan Bomford's comments that the thoughts by some that we need to make the GF or it will be a failure of a year seem to be wide of the mark and not entirely based in reality.

Should be an interesting few years, hopefully with a few premierships at the end!!

Obviously we can't expect guaranteed success, but i feel hopeful when I think of how some of the younger and less experienced blokes have performed already. To Schneider and LRT add Powell, Ablett, the odd promising touch from Meiklejohn - whatever happens we won't be disgraced.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

I hope so too... but let's be patient if LRT and Schneider have second year blues. I do agree with others that some people may be too optimistic.

Anne what if you didn't and they did?

I wont be too disappointed if they don't but have a productive year. And obviously over the moon if they do

Anne do you have health insurance? (Don't answer that but you can probably see my analogy.)

Most of the kids look pretty good for the future. Maybe I'm too optimistic, but I think we have to have a productive year next year, and improve in areas that let us down this year. All the way in 2004 for the bloods!

Hopefully in the Rookie draft we will target a few young talls along with Potter and Mglone again
