Sydney's cost of living concession

Re Melb v Syd house prices... I was just reading BRW October/November edition regarding average house prices for 2002-03. Sydney = $448k, Melbourne = $343k.

As we all know, this is by far the biggest cost in most people's lives therefore there is a 30% difference and only a salary cap allowance of around 5% (at last ruling??) for cost of living in Sydney.

FACT... As it stands, the Swans are thereby at a massive disadvantage in attracting and retaining players. Not only do they have to leave family and friends, they have an extra $100k+ to pay for a house, more in Sydney's East!!!

The next time I hear an uneducated Collingwood supporter (yes tautology I know) whinging about salary cap concessions I'll spew up! If anything, it's time we started whinging about the paltry concessions and uneven playing field we are disadvantaged by!

I got this off Big Footy -

Presently (2003) there is a 10% bonus for retention and a 5% bonus for cost of living. By 2005-06 there will be a 5% bonus for retention (approx. $30,000 for 12 players on top of their agreed contracts with the club, if the club's list has 60% or more of their list from outside the club's home state) and a 7% bonus for cost of living.

I think this is fairer than the previous set up even if we lost 3%

Agree Robbie, no one can agrue against the new rules and in fact Eddie has publicy stated that he supports the new rules.

Everyone is entilted to the retention bonus if they have 60% or more from interstate and the COL at 7% is a fair result considering the players are paid very well for their age group.
