    Swans: Membership on the rise.

Membership Manager of the QBE Sydney Swans Paul Grzanka said today that 2004 Membership is on target to surpass the 2003 figure by Christmas should current trends continue.

"As of 4pm this afternoon we have just over 15,000 members in total with more than 1000 of those in Melbourne," Grzanka said.

"Those figures are representative of a significant rise on 2003 at the same time."

In 2003 Sydney Swans membership totalled 21,270 with 4,500 of those in Melbourne.

Tony Morwood, General Manager - Melbourne reported that in just seven days of membership sales down south more than 1000 applications have been received.

"Considering at the same time last year we had 312 members it is certainly very encouraging having sold in excess of 1000 membership already, but in saying that we still have a long way to go," he said.

The Swans Melbourne Family Day last Sunday at Lakeside Oval was a raging success with Morwood reporting that over 400 memberships were sold on the day, 30% of those being new members.

That is a fantastic result, especially the numbers in Melbourne.

If we have a good first 5 rounds then we should be rocking membership and corporate support wise.

Encouraging news. Maybe we will get more sellouts next year.

Seeing as 2003's membership was the lowest since 1996, it would want to be up on last season.

I'll say this with not a hint of cynicism or sarcasm. But well done. It is about time the Melbourne markert was targetted seriously. The steps taken down there are excellent. And I'm sure the club WILL see the reward for this in far higher membership sales.

We get up to 15000 Swans fans at Melbourne matches. When you consider we only have 4000 members, you see how much scope we have to improve there.

I guess the next step for Melbourne-based Swans fans is to lobby for better value for their membership card. Didn't Charlie say that it is still cheaper to rock up on the day than buy a Swans Melbourne membership.

A fan day up here would be great. I'll be watching to see what sort of membership stand the club puts in place for the North Sydney match. (If they need volunteers, I'd man the stall all day for free, but my polo size is XXL thank you... ).

The club looks to be genuinely making an effort in both states to improve things for members. For the first time in years I feel that is actually somebody who is listening at Driver Ave.

                More please!

If we had 15000 that quickly when will we know if we got into the first 4000 for the premiership Club. I paid for mine over the phone within an hour of getting my letter.

Will be interesting to find out how many of us went for the P/Club and who missed out. You would reckon it would be oversubscribed given the hard core of supporters who are prepared to pay a premium for a chance to get a guaranteed GF Ticket. When I put up the dough it did not reject my offer so I guess I am in. Did they have an automatic cut off?

Anyone got any inside info. You hope they would advise those who missed out now rather than the week of the GF if we got there. Remember the Wobbles problem of this year.

While it is a goal to get more games down here in Melbourne, it is not the next step.

The next step is to make those 10,000 + people who go to games in Melbourne without a membership understand that our club does not get a cent from this and all the cash goes to the opposition clubs.

Convert those supporters into members then apply pressure to the AFL and club to meet the demands of the 15,000 Sydney members in Melbourne.

It will be the only way.

I see they would like 40,000 members - will they still have membership capped in Sydney?

Seems this may be a way off, but hopefully membership will go past 30,000 again this year
