I bought this and have to say it was a disappointment. A DVD that can hold 3+ hours with only about 1:15, no extras. Half of that time is interviews with Roos, so out of more than 50 hours of footy this year, there was less than an hour of highlights. Pretty poor I reckon.

Completely agree - was very disappointed. It failed dismally to convey any of the excitement or passion as the story of the season unwound. Although the format of the 1996 tape is very similar, it somehow manages to convey how the excitement build throughout the year. This one doesn't. -
I think I might give it a miss too.
It's not in widescreen is it? Most of the info I have indicates it's in bodgy 1.33:1
177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out....

Tree, is it at least in widescreen?
The standard digital TV bitrate (around 7Mbps) limits a single layer dvd (DVD-5) to about 80 mins. Reducing the bit rate would mean higher compression and a significant loss of detail especially in the wide action shots where the figures are small and the ball even smaller. Live sport is more demanding on bitrate than movies.
To get more thay have to go to dual layer or add a second disc. Sounds like they have economised and used single layer discs.
But I would also be disappointed with only an hour of highlights.
Has anyone bought any of the "single game" DVDs. Are it on one disc or two? If on one disc is it dual layer? (To find out this put it in your PC and do a "Properties" display to see how much data is on the disc - single layer holds around 4.5Gb)Comment

I brought the DVD a few weeks back, and I loved it. Sure it was on the short side and it had no extras but hell it was great reliving the high points of the season and the way the covered the Port Final was great. Heck I even could spot myself a few times (the CS singing that Adam Goodes song in his interview a case in point.Once was, now elsewhereComment

No, it's 4:3 not widescreen and the footage of the game appeared ordinary TV quality (I watched it on my PC) not HDTV. For $35 or thereabouts I expected a lot more. Even a few stats files, still images etc. would have been nice.
I also bought 1987 R17. It was only available on VHS. Great game, but ****ty tape. Again, no interviews and the game is cut off at the end in mid-word. Woeful editing. It was great to hear the biased commentary of Bobby Skilton though and that last quarter....WOW!!!Comment

JS - unfortunately not, I agree with you and was disappointed it wasn't included.
I got my copy of the DVD in the office Kris Kringle (lucky me). I enjoyed it but thought it was a little on the short side. Still got me fired up and looking forward to next season.Bring it on!Comment

Robbie, did they include the three stooges footage from the StadeOZ game. That SHOULD have been in any highlights reel! Diego's performance was classic!Once was, now elsewhereComment

So has anyone thought of putting together there own compilation DVD, VCD etc. Maybe 10-15 minutes of each game. Maybe a few Red and White Onliners could pick a game each to review and highlight we collate the stats for each game, highlight Brownlow votes for each game. Now I really must install that 80gig HD that I bought a few weeks ago!One vege patch at a time

Thanks for the reviews everyone. I got the 1996 tape and loved it but I won't be getting this DVD. I'll stick with the tape of Rd 20 against Brisbane and the QF against PA I got from NAMEAGAME plus a few others I taped. Disappointing news.He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)Comment

Some of us aren't home long enough to warrent getting a DVD player. Is the VHS tape any different?
I bought the Port final tape and was disappointed that they stopped everything about 30seconds after the final siren. No interviews. And little of the emotion of a highly stirring day.
But as Robbie and a select few can attest to, we were there in Adelaide. So to us that day has special unique significance that no tape can ever reproduce. It is never the same as experiencing it live. And being reduced to tears through sheer indescribable elation. Anyone who saw me wailing uncontrollably on the Gabba fence with Annette, our Brisbane-based supporter, after the Brisbane win at the Gabba knows how much wins like this mean to me. Especially given the exhaustive efforts a small group of us make in supporting the team around the land live we do.
Still any tape is better than nothing. And I want the tape to trigger off memories of an exhausting buthighly memorable season.

PS: Gem, I bought 3 new Vhs tapes that I'll be bringing on Xmas Day. Can you see if you can have some of the matches dubbed for me?"Never ever ever state that Sydney is gone. They are like cockroaches in the aftermath of a nuclear war"
