I don't think I hugged and kissed anyone during that game, I was almost too scared to breathe, I was numb with the hope/fear that we might win/blow it.
I remember going to the bar at the bottom of the Pat Hills stand at 3/4 time and seeing swans people (there weren't many) with these stunned looks on their faces.
I think it was just too much of a relief afterwards. I'm glad you could enjoy it though.

A day or so later "The late Show" made a joke saying that the Swans had sung "Achy Breaky Heart" after the game because they'd forgotten the team song it'd been so long.

Which the leaguies at work repeated to me ~ and I really didn't mind because we'd won!

John it was 97 and hell was it cold that day, it pissed down from about 10 minutes before the match started until the end. We didn't even kick a goal in the first half. Myself I went to the match with the flu, noting even think that the chance of showers forecast would lead to the downpour I stood though (It was too cold to sit) all I had for protection was a garbage bag I brought from home. I ended up in hospital the next day.

I loved the WCE game in round 22 1996. Sitting in the first-come-best-dressed part of the Brewongle with my grandfather.

My grandmother won the competition to toss the coin that round, but she was too sick to be at the game so my dad got to do it.

I wasn't at the WCE game, but I did watch it live on TV. I was amazed and thrilled we had AFL live into Sydney on a Saturday night. You most definitely could feel the atmosphere via the TV that night. I had knotts in my stomach and couldn't sit still for the final quarter.

I also think the Kanga's game in May 99 with our come behind win was a great one for atmosphere. The SYDNEEEEEY chant in the the and final quarters that night was awesome.

I agree it has felt flat lately. Dare I say last year was it due to no one believing we could achieve what we did and that everyone bought the one game at a time line and had no expectations.

Or was it during the late 90's we had Plugger who would always demand the expectation of great things about to happen as the ball came flying up field to him?

Or is it that sometimes Sydney people have the attitude of being "too cool" to show such displays of unbridled passion and enthusiasm?

I just know I love my concourse reserved seat and would hate to see it lost. But then again I get to the games at the beginning of the ressies, so attaining the same seat or perhaps a better one wouldn't be too much of an issue.

last sunday match in syd 6 june

The last Sydney SCG day match is on 6th June ...yes 6 June!!

I called the swans over this issue. I have a young family and Sat night finish is too late for them, so we can't go as a family
and
also means finding a baby sitter for 5-6 hours
So no extra $$'s and no family function (one of the strengths of the swans).

I was very close to not getting tickets this year as resell is not worth it and there are only a few games we can go to. I don't want to lose my great B.O. seats but if it's the same next year I will be a ticketek customer each week when I can afford to go.

I'm glad to hear that you also appreciated the atmosphere, you may have a point about Sydney people being "too cool"

Just look at the Brisbane final during the 3rd quarter where he is giving the umpie a serious case of the fnger!

But he makes a BLOODY GOOD Grand Final banner though!

Then again, better not swell his head too much. He has a plane to catch to Canada and has to get his noggin in the door somehow!

Spot on - Sydney people are just not interested on Saturday afternoons, the crowds would be dismal.

Saturday night is the night, which I love, but I do understand the family aspect. I wish 9 and 10 were more flexible with the deal, would be great to have some 2pm starts, but never going to happen while League is on 9 at 4 up here.
