Drug company Pfizer's new multimillion-dollar three-year deal with Sydney's community development and promotions unit, Team Swans, has given "Up there Cazaly" a totally new meaning.

Viagra is Pfizer's famous male erectile dysfunction drug and while puns such as "stiff competition" and "hard men of the Swans" were not openly thrown around at yesterday's news conference, some secretly giggled at the new sponsor's main drug.

But Swans player and co-ordinator of Team Swans, Jared Crouch, was oblivious to the sponsor's big drug.

"No, I didn't know that - I thought their main drug was Aquasun sunscreen for little kids," Crouch said.

Yesterday, the Swans had their first practice match of the year at North Sydney Oval before the weekend's clash with Essendon.

Coach Paul Roos said the match was an opportunity for him to glimpse what some of his up-and-coming Swans can do.

"We saw what happened last year . . . a lot of young talent is unearthed at this time of year," Roos said.

One player Roos will be watching closely on Saturday at North Sydney is 18-year-old midfielder Jarrad McVeigh, brother of Bomber Mark. McVeigh, the Swans' prize recruit in 2002, has added six kilograms to his athletic frame.

"(McVeigh) has had a super pre-season (and) had a season of reserve football under his belt. Nick Malceski been very impressive over the last month - there's seven or eight of those young guys I'm really looking forward to seeing on the weekend," Roos said.

It will not be until after the first round of the Wizard Cup that some of the Swans' more experienced players will be allowed to test themselves.

Roos said many of them had prepared well this season. "Jason (Saddington) had a super pre-season, Mick (O'Loughlin's) a month ahead of where he was last year, Stephen Doyle's another one, Ben Fixter is another one. Jason Ball . . . you are looking at those five players to play a lot more football than they did last year," he said. "The unknown is, is there going to be another Adam Schneider or Lewis Roberts-Thomson around the corner? That's what you are going find out over the next couple of weeks .

To think what it would be like to unearth another young promising talent this year. Its also fantastic that everybody is so terribly ready to start playing fantastic footy again. Can anybody else sense the hunger that these boys have?

Yeah, but if you're starting from a base of 50kg, that's a pretty good gain!

It does sound crap, but if that is 6kgs of solid (permanent) muscle, then that is a good result.

I put on 20kgs over 2 years in the gym, however that was will almost no cardio, so don't forget he has to balance, weights with cardio and skills.

If he spent 6 days a week on weights, he might weigh as much as Baz by May but chances are he couldn't run around the centre square without throwing up!
