which is the best position for LRT

LRT is Roos' golden child. Roos will do everything possible to make this bloke a champion. Just look at last season, when the team basically carried LRT for most of the games. He was definitely not in the best 22 each week, but was given a go anyway, and the improvements were obvious.

And what better position for Roos to teach him to play than CHB. Ultimately I think he will have the size, strength, speed, etc to play there, but again this year will be more about him learning to play the game. He will continue to be rotated off the bench to anywhere on the ground that Roos thinks he will learn best.

First learn the game, then learn a position. Roos was a champion for his ability to read the game from any situation. He was one of the smartest footballers I have seen. I imagine that he wants LRT to develop some of that instinct and intelligence. After all, this bloke is still fresh, and so can be moulded into anything.

I think you are being a tad harsh there mate. From memory not only did LRT kick a goal in his first match, but he started to play increasingly good games of footy. A game at Footy Park against the Crows certainly comes to mind.

He HAS definitely beefed up this season. Which is good, as last year he still looked very scrawny and a bit ungainly in his actions.

Where to play him, well like many people I haven't the faintest. I like BBB at Centre Half Forward, with Micky O and Jason Ball alternating between FF & FP. Maybe have him as a back-up ruckman when Goodesey needs a breather.

I still have a couple of cornerns about his general mobility. Not only does he tend to lumber around a bit, but he takes FOREVER to get rid of the footy. But I suppose he is only young, and his 'footy-smarts' and ability to read the game will improve with age.

The best thing is that our team is very very flexible. This should hold us in good stead as the season goes by.

Yes, as I said a little while ago, this is what I think Roos will do and it makes most sense. Give the kid time to learn thw whole game before settling on a specific position.

I think you're both right, to some extent. By the end of the season, with Doyle only pinch-hitting and Ball out, LRT was doing a good job, and deserved his place in the 22.

Having said that, he was also carried for his first 7 or 8 matches. That's ok - Powell was carried, Meiklejohn was carried, James was certainly carried. It comes with the territory with the first tentative steps (or in James' case, the first tentative steps mk.III) into AFL football.

I agree that he improved enormously throughout the season to end up playing a few beauties, including his rising star nomination game. But as Charlie said, that doesn't change the fact that he was definitely being carried earlier in the season, probably moreso than a youngster normally would. But then again, that is probably just a difference between Roos's coaching and Eade's

heres hoping that Saddo knuckles down and makes the CHB position his own this year. Then LRT can play in the forward line, where I think he can do alot more damage.

CHB I say but I hope Saddo can match it with the CHF's as well, so that if LRT goes down we have a ready made replacement who is hopefully already in our best 22.

I am not sure whether he would be best suited at CHF with his current kicking ability (from what I have seen).

from small patches last week at NSO IMO he was good in a floating position between CHB and the midfield. His athleticism is good enough to play this sort of role if need be. If he can develop a long shot at goal then perhaps he could be used in the same way between the midfiled and CHF

Roos has said on at least a couple of occasions that the forward set-up needs another tall option, and LRT seems to be coming along nicely in that regard.

He's a strong lead and takes a good mark, and towards the end of last season he had become confident enough to go toe-to-toe with a defender in a test of strength.

He's a strong kick, but his accuracy needs work. And he seems to have a good football brain. With experience, I think he could make a top class forward.

I haven't seen anything about his game that suggests he'll make a good defender, but then I said the same thing about Kennelly a couple of years ago.

I really hope he proves you wrong. The coaching staff still have faith in him, and so do i.
