Wounded Swans name 10 newcomers

The Sydney Swans have been hard hit by injury ahead of Sunday?s Wizard Home Loans Cup opener against Carlton at Telstra Stadium, with Leo Barry (shoulder), Jason Ball (shoulder), Michael O?Loughlin (knee), Nick Davis (hamstring), Rowan Warfe (hip) and Ben Mathews (ankle) all ruled out.
In their place the Swans have named a host of youngsters with 10 players in their 27 man squad yet to make their AFL debut.
The most prominent of these players is Jarrad McVeigh, the younger brother of Essendon star Mark, while the other new boys are Paul Bevan, Matthew Davis, Sean Dempster, Nick Malceski, Scott McGlone, Nick Potter, Aaron Rogers, Tim Schmidt, and Josh Willoughby.
Carlton will field virtually half a new team.
The Blues have included a staggering 11 new recruits from rival clubs as well as the pacy Stephen Kenna, who is yet make his AFL debut but spent last year with Hawthorn?s VFL team Box Hill.
The Carlton newcomers from rival clubs are former Hawthorn trio Daniel Harford, Brett Johnson and Glen Bowyer, ex Kangaroo pair David Teague and Digby Morrell, former Bombers Jordan Bannister and Cory McGrath, former Cat David Clarke, ex Magpie Heath Scotland, former Sydney and Fremantle ruckman Ricky Mott and of course their prized catch in ex Port star Nick Stevens.
And the Blues? star forward Lance Whitnall was also named, even though he was tipped to miss the match with a knee problem.
