Vaguely recall Powell, Kennelly and Nicks being injured. Doyle is probably being cotton-wooled, but with Goodes and Meiklejohn and Roberts-Thomson, we don't need him anyway. Williams, Bolton and O'Keefe, being midfielders, have probably been left out in preference to younger guys. McVeigh, Malceski, Willoughby, Schmidt, Davis, McGlone, Bevan, Potter, Buchanan, Ablett, Sundqvist - all midfielders, most going to play. There's only so much room.
    We hate Anthony Rocca
    We hate Shannon Grant too
    We hate scumbag Gaspar
    But Leo WE LOVE YOU!

Powell, Kennelly and Nicks were always going to struggle to recover for this match, and I remember Roos flagging Williams as doubtful for the pre-season. Doyle is always either injured or between injuries.

Bolton and O'Keefe are the interesting ones, particularly O'Keefe. He's very definitely got a point to prove, and I would have thought that he would have been in Roos' face demanding a chance to cement his spot.

I reckon O'Keefe could well be one of the players on thin ice if, for example, Ablett, Sundqvist, Malceski and McVeigh all perform well in the lead-up to round one.

I doubt this helps much since it is almost 2 weeks old, but:

Saw Nicks and Crouchy as we left at half time .... both looked fine. I reckon Crouchy was being rested and Nicksy is a backup.

It's hard to believe that they wouldn't of played if fit. I mean, blooding youngsters is all well and good, but having them decapitated is another thing altogether.

This is the standard that you have to achieve to play in the firsts - Rise to this level or be traded away!

All of the players that played yesterday now have an idea what is required - Hope that some get the full message!

                    Exactly right Rod_

All those blokes have now had a taste of it, can now go away and work out what they need to do to take the next step.

Some people on this board need to take stock of how tough this compertition is. To think Carlton were going to be easy beats was ludicrous. With the exception of maybe Angwin, that was their full side out on the park yesterday who are all 4 to 5 weeks further progressed than us and with a fair slice of them playing to impress the new coach and win a spot in the team.

You didn't have to be Einstein to work out that the team they put on the park was at least 10 goals better than ours. The difference between 16th and 4th in this compertition is not that far and people need to get it into their heads that if we do not have our full team on the park all injury free and playing well we are not that far from 16th.

What was disappointing though was the eventual margin and how far we fell away at the end.
