Collingwood vs Sydney next Saturday in Melbourne

Well I'll be damned, the AFL has decided that us Swans fans in Melbourne are worthy of a match down here, so therefore

    Saturday Feb 28
Collingwood vs Sydney at Vic Park

I'm there, so who else will make the trip out to Vic Park

I usually don't take much interest in pre-season practice games, but...seeing as we've otherwise got to wait until Round 6 to see the Swans down here in action I'll probably go watch. Plus I haven't been to Victoria Park for years!

Seems like a Melb weekend at the footy.....all 4 Wizard Cup games in Melb plus this game....

Glad to see the Melbourne fans getting a chance to see the team play though.

          I'm on the Chandwagon!!!

If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.

                How bloody ridiculous!

ALL Wizard Cup AND Wizard Regional Challenge matches should be played in the REGIONS (ie NOT the cities who host AFL matches - Launceston/Canberra/Darwin excluded).

                Darwin/Cairns host matches already.

Should add Alice Springs, Ballarat/Bendigo, Wagga, Newcastle, maybe Renmark, country WA (Kalgoorlie? I don't know WA too well).

One thing the NRL used to do well was its "Tooheys Challenge" which was a TV comp played in the bush. The final was at Dubbo/Bathurst NOT Telstra Dome etc.

We should do the same. Not in the daytime obviously where possible due to heat reasons. But the games should be used for promotional activities. No point sending AFL clubs out to the bush (early Feb) if they never host matches!

That might be so, but you have to take into account legal issues in regards to the grounds in country areas, because at this time of year more offen than not the surfaces are rock hard and the Swans themselves only have to remember the game in Newcastle in 2001, where we were hit with injuries, including a knee reco and a broken ankle.

Anyway way there are going to be plenty of games in regional areas in the next few weeks. So far Mowell has a game next weekend, plus Newcastle and Canberra will host practice matches along with Alice Springs, Shepparton, Bendigo, Kadina in SA and Mandurah in WA. Plus I'm certain 2 or 3 other regional areas will get games. Also the AFL have decided to try and give all teams at least one home match or home city match in the first 2 weeks, to limit on travel.

Anyway, last season the Sydney metro area, had 3 practice/Wizard Cup matches and so far this season 2. I think its only fair Swans fans in Melbourne get a chance to see the side, as we only have 5 matches all season down here and only 1 in the first half of the season.

I so terribly hope I can go! I'll have to find time when you consider the fact that I won't see the Swans in Melbourne until the first of May (more than two months away). Yet again, I only find this information on RWO.

Has anyone in Melbourne got their membership packs yet??

We need our memberships this week if we are to gain free entry into the game...

I'm still waiting - there cutting it fine - I reckon with the memberships going through the roof down here in melbourne they have got too many too get through and are running behind schedule

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere on the Swans site that memberships aren't being sent out until the 2nd week (maybe 1st) of March. Don't know whether they meant Sydney, Melbourne or both.

I doubt we have to pay to get into Vic Park anyway, so the memberships won't be needed anyway.
