    Swans in Newcastle next weekend

Damn no practice match in Melbourne this time around

Instead the Swans travel back to Newcastle to play the loser of St Kilda vs Essendon next Saturday at 1.30pm (gee real smart time if its hot)

Wonder why Newcastle??. The Knights open the NRL season against Penrith the night before (albeit in Penrith not Newie) but I can't imagine too many people up there wanting to see an AFL practice match the next day on a hangover!!

They should play it in Sydney at Drummoyne oval or something like that. I can't believe they are trying anything in Newcastle, so pro league, no point in my opinion.

Didn't the club just have their "away week" in Newcastle? I guess they are trying to press home any gains made there during that week (especially amongst the kids) by playing an actual game there.

And the Swans played a pre-season game in Newcastle about 5 years ago (maybe even longer ago) and there was a decent crowd.

Don't underestimate Novocastrians. Some of us have only every loved one code and it only took one game.....
Patterns emerge, but do they mean anything? No.

I guess I just don't see the point in going into that area yet. Sydney still has a way to go, would have been good to have a practice game in Sydney that didn't involve 15 players or crazy rules, plus there was also the opportunity to send the Melbourne based fans into a state of orgasmic bliss lol by playing 3 practice games in a row down there.

There are still people to convince in Sydney and down in Melbourne about jumping on board for 2004 and beyond. I just Newcastle is a bit of a waste at this stage, but seeing it is there, I hope they come out and support.

Come the AFL has been nice of late, but their not THAT nice.

My view is if there are still people to convince in Melbourne and 2 practice matches aren't enough then a third isn't going to change minds.

I'm going to pass on the game. Living in Goulburn to go to Newcastle means a heck of a lot of travelling and also it wipes out my weekend. I know this is a let down for JF who thinks I am hardcore, and I'm sorry.

Since 2001, I have missed at least one game a year, and hopefully this is it for this year.

Main problem is oval availability. Olympic is being used for rugger, SCG probably won't be ready as they'll be pulling the pitch out after the current Pura Cup match. Drummoyne and most others still being used for cricket.

There's always Picken Oval, I'm sure that's available! Sure it';s lacking a bit of grass, but it would be a big boost to the Westie's Club

Swans did their practise week in Newcastle and visited alot of Schools/Hospitals etc did clinics etc.

The local paper has advertised a Swans 3 game package from Newcastle to Stadium Australia for about $99 from memory. It's really cheap considering that includes the price of the seat plus return coach (using the bus company that carry's all the Newcastle supporters) to Newcastle.

So that explains why. Temps this week mid 20's.

For you Northern Spirit fans (yawn), The local Central Coast Express Advocate had a big article this week of the team relocating to the Central Coast and playing out of our white elephant here. Singo has to get bums on seats somehow.

The move will be either October, November or next February. Team to be called Pacific Spirit.
