    Clearances

    I haven't seen any of the trial games this year so I was wondering if the Swans clearances from stoppages/centre bounces have improved.
    I thought that last season that was a major weakness that placed them under a lot of pressure.

      Hard to tell in the pre-season given we haven't had our (hopefully) full-time guys doing the "tap" work. Ball and Doyle will hopefully be doing the bulk of the work.

      I suspect we won't star in this area again this year. Don't think we have for years now.

      We don't have a spider, crackers, primus or gardner to give us that amazing drive from stoppages.

          Obviously tap work is very important but I am thinking more about the on ballers getting their hands on the ball first as many tap outs are inconclusive.

          I can't get Hawthorn's Sam Mitchell out of my mind the night he cleared just about every stoppage.I would like to see Kirk go for the ball in those situations rather than hold his opponent.Could it be that Kirk and Crouch worry about their man too much instead of contesting the ball?

              Mitchell is helped out by one of the best tap ruckman in the competition.

              Kirk's 32 CB clearances is pretty reasonable actually, although he possibly could do better.

              Crouch's 17 is a bit low, but I'm not sure how much time he actually spends in the centre.
              Captain Logic is not steering this tugboat.

                  We were absolutely, dead set, knock 'em down SLAUGHTERED in the clearances against the Roos. Absolutely shocking. But then I really take notice of things things 'cos "just get your bloody hands on the ball!" rolls off my tongue quicker than "I hate Collingwood."

                      Yep - 43-23 that day. However, CB clearances were 10-10, and Ben Mathews managed 4. I wonder if we could Mathews in the centre as a proto-Diesel type of player (with decision making the main area to improve relative to Williams).
