Got my hotel room back in November for $76 for the Saturday Night at the 4 star Medina Executive. Add that to the cheap flights I bagged and this trip is cheaper than flying to the ANZAC Day Clash against Melbourne

I've booked a B&B near the Gabba. $60 for the night

Speaking of Brisbane - are there any pre-game gatherings planned?

I get to Bris early Sat am (the cheapest flight) so I'll be looking for something to fill in the time.

My preference would obviously be one of the pubs (or whatever) near the Gabba.

For those interested in a RWO meet up before the match, nothing has been planned yet, but myself and JF have brought up the idea of meeting near the GABBA for a late lunch (say 2-3pm) before moving on to a near by pub. The meet up the Swans have planned seems OK, but $20 to meet up with friends and have a few drinks isn't right. So keep an eye out, for more details in a week or so.

great spot is the http://www.storybridgehotel.com.au/ It is about a 10 min walk from the ground but is very trendy and has a good atmosphere. Good cheap bar food and a great resturant but a little expensive

For the best steaks in Brisbane the Norman http://www.normanhotel.com.au/ is not too far either. It is run by the people who used to own the famous Breakfast Creek Hotel and the food is the same format.

The Pineapple http://www.pineapplehotel.com.au/ is a little closer and is also good before the game. Food not so great as the other two.

Following is a list of city pubs http://www.aussiepubs.com.au/state/qld/index1.htm

We did that after the game last year and found that we got glared at by all the yuppies as they listened to the brass band playing.

We will be needing as many people as we can on the banner, so the idea of a $20 pre-match get-together just isn't feasible to me. I like to be in the ground with the flags all set up at least 1.5 hours before the match.

I'd rather us meet up at the Wollangabba pub across the road from the ground at say 3-4 (LOCAL TIME!!!!!!) and then trying to get the normal-sized flags in. I'm stressing about getting them in, as everybody who knows the hassles we had last year will be no doubtedly be aware of.

From memory Annette and I ate at fairly cheap restaurants (even if they looked like they had been started in the 1920s) on Vulture St back in 2002 between the ground and the Mater Hospital.

Gemma, please contact me off list to find out what we are doing re getting the flags up to Brisbane. Normaly I just take the normal ones we have in a laundrymat bag, as Annette has the flagpoles stored at her house. Is that what we are doing this year? Are you able to get the flags in one of those bags from Cathy's place before the 26th? Or should I go out at get them?

If anyone wants to hear me break into fluent Muenchner dialekted Boarisch, that'll be the place to go. It would probably flip them out having a guy in an FC Bayern shirt rocking up to an AFL match chanting "Loewen in den Zoo" (Put Lions in the zoo).

If they have REAL German Bratwursten, I'm there. The closest thing we have to decent sausages in Oz are the cravapci at Sydney Croatia's home games. The rest are just breadcrumb-filled rubbish!

STEHT AUF WENN IHR SCHWAENEN SEID! (Stand up if you're Swans)

                          The latest

Just got a call from our northern spy Annette. She said that the Wollangabba pub has been knocked down and that there is only rubble where it was. She was unaware where the German club was, but said it must have been near the 7-Eleven where Des and the J got drinks from last year.

Otherwise Annette recommended the Royal Australian Hotel. I'll keep everyone posted on where we go. As the Gabba Hotel wouldn't be very comfortable and the beer would be a tad dusty I think.

German Club is opposite the ground about 20 yards from the ground opposite Gate 4 I think in Vulture St.

Mmm....German club sounds good. Had some good Bratwurst in Germany a couple of months ago - just the thing to get me in the mood for watching meine liebe Schwaenen!
