Roos puts Williams in top bracket

SWANS coach Paul Roos questioned the absence of midfielder Paul Williams in AFL guru Mike Sheahan's top 50 AFL players for 2004.
The Swans had four players in the Top 50 - Adam Goodes, Barry Hall, Brett Kirk and Leo Barry this year - compared with just Hall at No.33 and Williams at No.49 last year.
"It's always hard to rate players ... Paul Williams is clearly in our best two or three players at this club," Roos said.
"If I was picking it there would be six or seven Brisbane blokes in the top 25."
While Michael Voss was omitted only because of fitness doubts, Sheahan ranked seven Lions, Jonathan Brown, Simon Black, Nigel Lappin, Jason Akermanis, Justin Leppitsch, Chris Johnson and Mal Michael in his 25.
"It's a bit subjective," Roos said.
"It's one person's top 50. It's not as if it's Pete Sampras being ranked No.1 in the world for the past six years."
Brownlow medallist Adam Goodes was ranked No.2 behind only Collingwood captain Nathan Buckley, after his breakthrough season.
The most effective run-with player in the competition last season Brett Kirk came in at No.41 while inspirational defender Leo Barry snuck in at No.50.
"It is a bit of a reflection on what everyone was expecting of us last year (when only one player made the top 50)," Barry said. "Perhaps last year really opened up people's eyes to some of the players on our list.
"Up here you don't get as much exposure as down in Melbourne so it was probably good recognition for a couple of blokes."
Small forward Adam Schneider and ruckman Lewis Roberts-Thomas made Sheahan's young guns list; Both revelations for Sydney last year and Rising Star nominees Roberts-Thomson came in at No.9 and Schneider at No.12.
PACY midfield prospect Nick Malceski has ruptured his anterior cruciate and has been ruled out for the season.
