"I don't know a lot about it at this stage, I've been in meetings all day," he added.
Hmmmmmmmm, not too sure if they handled this one all that well.

God thank heavens I returned to the board for the latest update before I went to the post box to send back my membership...
It's becoming a little clearer now....
"Davis...Davis has kicked 2...he snaps from 40...dont tell me, dont tell me, hes kicked a goal....unbelievable stuff from Nick Davis, can you believe this, he's kicked 3 final quarter goals and Swans are within 3 points..."

My memory of the story at time was that Heuskes and Burgoyne were charged and that a player who ended up on the Swans rookie list for a season was not charged . The current Swans player being taked about in the payment of money may have (as previously alluded to by Charlie ] been helping out a family member.

It is amazing how the media can distort a situation . The local ABC ( a Rugby Union station) is running the story as if the event in Adelaide just happened and are having great delight in saying a high profile current Swans player is involved in a rape case.

Yuck, nice mess this one is, depending on what the circumstances really are it's a tough call whether to name him or not. Not naming him however does give Price and the gang of shock jocks plenty to pine over in the coming days though, and allows it to fester.

so the only link to the supposed 'currently listed Swan', is the payment, he had nothing to do with the alleged assault, yeah? to me that seems like he chipped in to help out heuskes or other 'at some time listed Swan' then...

im WAY confused about it all... and cant see that the 'currently listed Swan' could be seen responsible for anything, considering all things... no interview, no charge, no pin... not a big deal then, concerning the 'currently listed Swan'...

As taken from Caroline Wilson's artcile today

Two current AFL players, including Port Adelaide's Peter Burgoyne, made a payment of about $200,000 to a woman who accused them of rape.

So the two current AFL players were accused of rape

Holding out hope that 'it was his brother' is OK but the facts are starting to mount up via media mediums that was not the case

                  Taken from another place
EDIT - Please refrain from pasting articles from elsewhere that aren't official news items. Can't be proven, think twice before posting. Thanks.

I am not reading that at all - from what I can tell, our player was not interviewed by police, ruled out as doing anything bad, but did contribute to the payout. For what reason, well that is where we are speculating.

The Swans should clear this up. If he did nothing wrong, then come clean about the situation. Innuendo will hurt us more than what the hard facts are is my feeling.

                        Same ****, different club.

had I not posted my views on the St.Kilda incident people would probably be saying that I am defending the player because I am as Swans supporter.

But the situation is the same.

Why even comment when it's at this state of affairs?

All it does is help create the snowball that the media want.

I went to the Bombers board.

You know what I realsied when I saw who was named?

                        It doesn't matter.
                        He is a Swans player.

Not naming him has only fueled fire.
I would name him happily, but everyone would hate me, so I won't....

Just saw both the Channel 7 and 10 news reports - 7's was kind of confused, not naming any players, but saying that a current Sydney player is involved in a new rape scandal. Channel 10 sounded like they knew a little more about what was happening - saying that Heuskes and Burgoyne had been investigated for sexual assault, and that there was now a $200 000 payout. Said that an unnamed Sydney player who had witnessed the event was also involved in the payout.

Wow, talk about a fair trial then a fair hanging. If I have this right, four years ago there was an incident in Adelaide that the police decided did not warrant proceeding to prosecution. By then they had charged two football players who have no link with the Swans. Those charges were dropped.

However, there was a current Swans player there at some stage during the night. His role was so minor that the police never even interviewed him, far less considered charging him.

However, when the woman involved said she would press civil charges (where the burden of proof in much less), the Swans player was a substantial contributor to the final settlement. So, somehow he has become guilty? If you look at the crap that has been published here and elsewhere today, I'd be prepared to pay to
pay to avoid this sort of public vilification - wouldn't you?

Incidentally, it sounds as if there was a contract signed (talk of lawyers and agreement that the payment was no admission of guilt, etc). I guess there would have been a confidentiality clause and the woman concerned is now prepared to pay back the money. Would that be because she is going to get more than the $200,000 for going public now? I wonder who is going to pay her that sort of money?

I'd wait for Sunday's "60 Minutes". But considering that the initial investigation didn't find enough to bring the Swan in for questioning, I bet there will be a defamation lawyer in Sydney with his/her finger on the rewind button.

So far, it seems as if there may be a Swan guilty of giving financial support to a friend in trouble (who possibly did something despicable, though even that remains unproven). I think I'll hang onto my club membership.

From some versions I've heard/read, the Swans player who was there, and the one who paid the money may not be the same person. Not sure how true this is though.
