I listened to a bit of 2UE and 2GB and neither station mentioned a name while I was listening.

Has anyone heard a Swan's name mentioned - other than in the scuttlebutt (good word that) on the Bomber site?

If we hear a Swan named for the assault (not the payment) then we can presume the story really has legs because I bet all the media are running every news bulletin past their lawyers.

Did 2GB and or Price name any current Swans player as being involved in a rape??

If so , they may be reaching for their cheque books before too long. .

Look, if Pricey or the Parrot say ANYTHING you know its a big fat bleepin' lie. I work in nsw govt, and we have to live daily with the b/s these dickheads trowel up. As someone recently said to one of Carr's ministers "Who's running this state, mate .. you or Jones?"

          The silence was deafening.

On Radio Sport SEN in melbourne this morning the Herald Sun reporter, Robinson, was interviewed by Kevin Bartlett.

When mention was made of a third player Robinson said something like. "it would be unwise to name the so called 3rd party as a law suit would be on you very quick smart".

Therefore anyone who wishes to name him, be it TV ,Radio Newpaper or internet site better have a very big cheque book account.

Clearly from what the Swans have said about no police interview etc. that a lot of what is being said is speculation, innuendo and perhaps even guilt by association.

Bloody hell how more frenzied can the press get. My guess is that in a short time when the season is under way this story will just go away.

              Same news but written differently,

Roos draws distinction between sex assault allegations

Sydney coach Paul Roos says the latest allegations of sexual assault by AFL players shouldn't be compared to the police investigation surrounding two St Kilda players.

The latest allegations involve three players from the Port Adelaide, Sydney Swans and Brisbane Lions football clubs.

Four years ago, two of the players were charged with rape after an incident with a woman in Adelaide but the charges were later dropped.

It has been claimed in News Limited newspaper reports this morning that the woman was paid $200,000 in an out of court settlement.

Allegations of rape have also been made against St Kilda players Leigh Montagna and Stephen Milne, after an incident on Sunday night. The pair strongly denies the claims.

The Saints pair has been interviewed by police but Roos says the Sydney player in question has done nothing wrong.

"I'm not sure it's similar at all," he said. "Our guy hasn't been interviewed by police, hasn't been involved in any rape charges so I would think it's completely different."

Roos said the Swans made no payments and he believes his player has done nothing wrong.

"If a player hasn't been interviewed by police and hasn't been linked to a crime... that's all I really know at the moment so at this stage we don't believe that anything wrong has been done."

Port Adelaide and Brisbane officials are expected to comment on the case later in the day.

              Reports

This morning's reports centre on claims by a woman that she was sexually assaulted by high-profile AFL players from the three clubs in Adelaide in 2000, and then paid to keep her silence on the matter.

So far Port Adelaide and Sydney have denied making payments to the woman. The ABC is seeking a response from Brisbane, although it is believed the former Lions player named in the reports had left the club before the alleged incident took place.

Two footballers were charged over the incident, but the charges were dropped by the South Australian director of public prosecutions, Paul Rofe QC.

Mr Rofe says today is the first time he has heard claims that the woman was paid to keep quiet about the rape allegations.

He says he dropped the charges because there was no reasonable prospect of conviction.

Media reports suggest the payment to the woman was made by players after the woman involved in the alleged incident initiated civil legal proceedings against the trio.

One of Port Power's senior managers Mick Moylan has told the ABC radio's AM program the club was not involved in making any payment to the woman.

"No-one from my knowledge from the club or certainly looking at the files, no-one is aware of what transpired," Mr Moylan said.

He said even though the players maintained their innocence, such allegations can taint a club.

Mr Moylan said the public associates the actions of players with the club, meaning misdemeanours by individuals can rub off on the entire club.

Port Adelaide coach Mark Williams remained tight-lipped about the allegations this morning as he attended an AFL coaches conference at Docklands Stadium in Melbourne.

"The club is going to make a full statement later this afternoon so that's really all we've got to say about it," he said.

Then why should the Swans officials put up the shutters if all we were talking about was some rookie list player from years ago?

Every news organisation tonight ran it was a "current Swans player"

Exactly. Would have been VERY simple for Colless or Roos today to clear that up if it was a former player. Today seemed to confirm it was a current player.

According to a legal source: "Three separate players took part (in the settlement). All three contributed, and the amount was substantial."

I alwaus cringe when I see this type of journalism IMO this should be against the law. If a person hasn't got the guts to put their name to a claim it should not be printed.

Just another way the media is allowed to (in many cases) get away with mis-informing the public.

This thread surprises me a bit. It was so widely reported at the time I thought everyone knew.

But, it was always reported from day one that the high profile player (who everyone now knows), was in no way involved in the incident.

As is said - he wasn't even interviewed. As far as was reported he was not there at all.

Why the hell is someone 'implicated' in anything, or have any guilt by association when they wren't even there?

If there is a story here (other than Burgoyne and Heuskes), then I can't see it.

What exactly is he being accused of the he should be concerned about?

                                I don't get it
