    Payments to be investigated

PREMIER Mike Rann asked the Attorney-General to investigate the payment, prompting speculation the case could be re-opened.

"These (players) are our kids' heroes, and that's why it's really, really concerning," he said.

DPP Paul Rofe, QC, said yesterday's media reports were the first he had heard of allegations the alleged rape victim had been paid money.

It would be an offence to pay money to someone during a criminal prosecution, but not after a prosecution had been finalised as part of a civil action, he said.
And to the mod who deleted 2 or 3 previous threads on this issue. Why???? This is a pretty serious matter concerning a player at the Swans and we are discussing issues that have been published in the news this morning. You may wish this story to go away but, particularly here in Sydney it simply is not going to.

I was one of those who requested a deletion of all the threads.

    This board is about football.

There is nothing in the allegations that media crap and now political gains.

The best thing we can do for the club is ignore it all.

And I say that only because it is all a non event as far as the Swans are concerned.

If things change then make threads, but as it stands, it's just gossip....

CTS wasn't the only person to request the deletions. Just because it's in the newspaper means its correct right?. While its still allegations, we have to cover ourselves here. Unlike these newspapers, we don't have the money to fork out if someone thinks we're guilty of libellous information sitting on our site.

We're erring on the side of caution, because we can't afford not to.

If you don't want to discuss them, fine, then put your hands over your ears and don't read them. If this particular forum (not the whole board) is about direct football discussion then also fine, move the threads to Misc., as has been done plenty of times in the past.

Deletion for the reason that is doesn't suit your idea for relevent discussion is censhorship at it's worst.

In my opinion this issue is going to fester for a while yet and it has signficant impacts for the Swans. Compared to anywhere else this board is the best place to discuss it. Ignoring it isn't going to make it go away, particularly here in Sydney.

If there weren't potential legal implications (a long shot yes, but still a small chance that we can't afford to take), then yes, it would be a matter of cover your ears and don't read them. But that's not the case.

Only one of those threads mentioned the player involved, what about the rest???

              Agreed.

I can understand any post that may have mentioed a player being removed, but not whole threads.

I wonder if someone like Wayne Carey was involved whether anyone would care if this was being discussed 24/7.

The 2 that were moved altogether mentioned the player in the thread title...

The one where the player was mentioned in posts, only the posts have been moved.

I think The AGE and SMH are going to gain a fair bit more attention than this board.

But it is the responsibility of the moderators to moderate.

I notice that the age and SMH sites are down.

Just a direct quote from The Age is not suggesting ***** at any stage acted unlawfully

I've got enough parking fines to get through at the moment don't give me anything else please.

I've got no problem with posts being deleted that could cause problems but deleting whole threads just coz you don't like the discussion is going over the top.
Secondly if Fairfax can come out and name names this morning you would think that the their lawers would have the legalities covered (although it wouldn't be the first time they haven't), and if it's just a matter of ensuring the facts (i.e. getting the right player) then there should be no problem discussing it here.
(At the time of writing the Fairfax sites are down!!!! go figure!!!)

Normally these settlements are a very tightly guarded secret to protect the names of the individuals involved, otherwise one of their purposes disappears. I wonder who the leak was and whether any action can be taken against them.

These articles are the lowest form of gutter journalism I've seen.

Using words like "dark past", "murky" (which were in The Age) etc are intended only to drag ****'s name through the muck. They KNOW he didn't do anything, and they say as much, probably to please their lawyers. For the rest of it, though, it's quite clear what they're trying to do; potentially ruin a man's life over a crime they know he didn't commit, so that they can sell maybe an extra 2% today.

                            SHAME ON YOU FAIRFAX!

Like i said (in one of the deleted threads), the name of the Swans player created the most fuss.

It's been published, let everyone know, and then realise that it is a big fuss about NOTHING (as far as the police are concerned in the WORST senario) so for the sake of the club and our seson, we should do out little bit and drop the subject here.

It's a Swans board, why would you want to discuss anything that would potentially taint the club?

Go to some other board and discuss it...
