    Poppycock!!!

I have my reasons for not joining this year. Doesn't make me any less of a supporter. At least not in my eyes
If u don't believe me, I will knock your bloody teeth out and not pay you a cent.

I admit that I didn't buy a membership last year.

For the first half of the year my leg was in an iron frame, and druning the second half, I went to Europe for 5 weeks.

Sorry, I am happy to support the club.

But you buy a membershhip, you go to the games.
      That is the deal.

      The Swnas aren't a charity.

      They don't get my donation.

I pay for my membership, and I get to go to the games.

It's bad enought that I have to pay extra at Geelong, and may end up on level 4 because that's the only spot my membership will allow me to go, or that there are only 5 games.

I am happy to pay, but in return I want what I pay for.

Looks like the dwindling number of games in Melbourne is starting to bite. Any rhetoric about more value for Swans supporters in Melbourne goes down the drain when can't see you're team live.

I got my ticket because I have done for the best of 40 years, but the chance that we might get to the GF gave me greater incentive this year.

It is quite amazing when we get what seems about 10000 to an MVCG match but only 4000 buy a ticket.

Must be lack of games and perceived poor value. Tony Morwood is going to really earn his dough if can get 10000 members in Melbourne. Maybe like the Hawks he can manage to get a few dogs, cats and budgies signed up to get the numbers.

Melbourne Swans supporters love their Bloods. I think probably more than most Sydney people do so it does not surprise me that we have quite a few Melbourne members. I can see them dropping off soon though due to the fact that I would think our supporter base in Melbourne is ageing (no offence intended to anybody!). I think there are still quite a few people here who used to go to South Melbourne games who want to keep seeing their beloved team. However, I think that our supporter base down here is slowly dwindling due to the fact that most people need to see their team a bit more often live and we just don't get enough games in Melbourne!

So any Melbourne based supporter with kids, tell them they have to move out if they are going to switch teams (especially if it is going to be Collingwood or Essendon).
            Go you mighty BLOODBOYS!

I am not sure how the Melb memberships are structured, but what if the Swans seperated the membership from the games passes?

So give the fans an opportunity to become a full club member, get the newsletter , access to finals tickets etc etc but also the option of not purchasing a Melbourne games pass?

Not sure if it would work, but perhaps they should start thinking down those lines.

There are two things you can do

                - watch the team each week
                - join the club

Apologies it is possible that people simply cannot afford it, I am not bagging them, but I get tired of hearing I won't join cos' of the games, the venues, the colour of the socks. That is really not much difference to those who join and then quit when we start losing. It's just another reason NOT to join.

You join the team, you keeping joining. That helps the team, it affirms the levels to the players cos' we now get total membership numbers pushed down our throats all the time.

Yeah you can ponce round in your little chat room but you tell me Sharpie what else can you do for the team? And thanks for the reasoned debate on the matter too. "Garbage" ...do you work in the industry, is it close to your heart?

Thanks for the informed considered comment too

Mmmm I did consider my response (the garbage one) for quite some time, but in the end I felt the level of argument you had started was so low that the only appropriate answer was one which was equally pathetic.

Statements like "you don't join....you are not a true supporter," are not worthy of (as your tag requests) "informed, considered comment."

Why would I bother engaging with you on an intellectual, creative or constructive level when you are merely spewing knee-jerk, self congratulatory attacks?

.......Now if you would like to have a discussion on HOW we can encourage supporters to contribute more money, time and energy to the team, then I'm up for that.

And a small point of etiquette as regards disagreements on internet messageboards...play the ball not the man. You will note that it was your uninformed ill-considered gross generalisation which I referred to as "garbage," not you.

Sharpie I have never accused anyone's opinion of being 'garbage'

"Why would I bother engaging with you on an intellectual, creative or constructive level when you are merely spewing knee-jerk, self congratulatory attacks?"

"self congratulatory attacks"...so that is playing the comment not the man? And what on earth does that mean? You really started the polemic old chum, methinks you complain too much.

"your uninformed ill-considered gross generalisation which I referred to as "garbage," not you".

I am afraid you do display the self seriousness displayed only too often on this site, I stand by 'my opinion', how do you propose we support the club as fully as possible then ....not join up?

Yeah so I generalised...so bite me!
