    Swans: Bevan gets a start!

With Tadhg Kennelly ruled out of Saturday's clash with Brisbane Sydney youngster Paul Bevan has been given the call-up to make his debut against the premiers.

The 19 year-old was elevated to the Nominated Rookie list last week after solid performances in the Wizard Cup and Wizard Regional Series.

His early football was played with Western Suburbs and he was also a member of the NSW-ACT Rams side.

Paul Bevan will be the second local youngster to make his debut this weekend with Jarrad McVeigh also stepping out for the first time.

        It's true

SYDNEY will field two debutants in Saturday's AFL opening round game with Brisbane after Tadhg Kenelly was ruled out today with a knee injury.

The highly-rated Jarrad McVeight and Paul Bevan, who was recently elevated off the rookie list, will face the premiers at the 'Gabba.

Kenelly injured his left knee at training last night.

Tadhg Kennelly twisted his knee during Wednesday night's training session on the SCG that resulted in a tear to the meniscus cartilage in his left knee.

An arthroscope was performed this morning at the Prince of Wales Hospital and the result was as expected, he had a tear in the cartilage which required minor surgery.

It is anticipated Tadhg will be available for either Round 3 or Round 4. However, this is dependant on a review prognosis within the next week.

Hmmm, Although I'm hopeful he'll get a run I'd be surprised they would confirm the final 22 until gameday in Brissy.

And to form your opinion, you saw a fair bit of Bevan in the 2's last year from sunny Thornbury?

Where have you pulled Thewlis from? Has he even been sighted during the pre-season? Don't remember seeing him play in either the first Bombers game or the Carlton game, nor reading anything about him in any others.

My guess is that he is someway off getting a senior game at the moment. When the players were introduced individually at the Pre-Season dinner, most of the comments were bland but upbeat. It struck me, however, that for Thewlis they said something along the lines of "we believe he has a future at AFL level so long as he applies himself". Maybe I was reading too much into it but that sounded like a slight - but public - dig at his training efforts.

PS: When did thornbury get sunny?

I remember that as well Lizz - I was quite surprised to hear it. He isnt injured, so I cant imagine why he didnt get a run in any of the pre-season games. It seems he has lost favour with Roosy..
