    don't blame Ball

These things just happen, so don't blame ball for the miss, there were other players that could have done a lot better

Everyone was out for Ricky Mott's neck when he missed that crucial goal against Essendon in 2002, but Ball misses a crucial one and it's alright? I can't understand that. In saying that though, there were other easy shots on goal missed throughout the night.

I didnt' put the blame on Ricky back then either. It's always the last goal or attempt at goal that is remembered, unfortunately. Plenty of shots were missed by BOTH sides at the Gabba. Rok missed a couple quite badly, Barry Hall should have done better. That's the way the cookie crumbles (or ball bounces, ha ha)

177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out....

Geez, certainly don't remember Mott copping flak ?!? In fact the poor bloke fronted the aftermatch and there wasn't a dissenting voice among the crowd.

Everyone is naturally utted, but feel nowhere near how poor Mott or Ball felt, (and for that matter Goodes against Adelaide last year )

Seems we have one of these each year, Mott 2002, Goodes 2003, Ball 2004. So must be out of our system now

Me either. I do remember images of Rocket giving Mott lots of TLC after the siren.

The difference between Mott's miss and Ball's is that Ball completely muffed his kick. Still Des is right, miss missed so many other chances though out the match and a 3rd quarter fade out doesn't help matters

I am still annoyed. He is paid a lot of money to kick those goals and there was no excuse for missing. I still feel sick.

I was thinking that Jason might feel he "owes us" one now.....but then I rememebered that last season someone took a screamer 25 out from goal and then kick the winner against Brisbane at the S.C.G.....bloke name of Ball.

While we're at it don't forget that if you are a Port hack (Poulton) or an essendon pig (Alessio) you will kick the winner you should kick on the siren.

When was the last time a Swan did that? (and I don't count Cressa's dive against the Roos)

Lucky Plugger only needed a point, considering our history!

                    These things don't just happen!

I'm sorry, but I was under the impression that the ball WAS kicked by Ball, so if you can't blame him for missing a set shot 35m out, who can you blame?

I agree that there were a lot of mistakes made that resulted in Ball ultimately having to kick the winning goal, but it is still his fault for missing. Even if it wasn't his direct fault for losing the game.

Anyway I've had enough of this arguement. Everyone ranting on about 'poor Ball' [IMO he is a terrific player and we missed him last year] I'm sure he has broad enough shoulders to take the flack.

The only way I can stop from crying is to remember that we've had plenty of fairytale wins too (yes, Sharp9 .. even if it was a "dive"). It cuts both ways in footy. And I dare say it sharpens the mind a little if players remember previous opportunities like this one - for more important games .. like FINALS.

It is always sad for the player involved when the last piece of play is isolated and previous ones overlooked. Fact is though he missed by one hell of a lot. Professional footy players should do better.
