2004 Carlton Draught Pre-Season Grand Final
Monday 29 March 2004
In what promises to be an exciting match, the Queanbeyan Tigers will take on the Sydney Swans Reserves this weekend for the Grand Final of the 2004 Carlton Draught Pre-Season competition. The match will be played at 10.15 at the SCG, as a curtain-raiser for the Sydney Swans v Fremantle Dockers match.
Both teams will be fielding strong sides, and it's sure to make a thrilling match for the fans. The Tigers are desperate to avenge defeats of the past three finals they have played in, being the past two AFL Canberra Grand Finals and last season's Vilis Cup Grand Final against Campbelltown, of which they lost by only 1 point.
Players to watch for the Tigers Club will obviously be Coach Mark
Armstrong - highly regarded as one of the best players in the league, along Luke Ellis, leading goalkicker from the previous two seasons in the AFL Canberra competition.
Captain Jason Gilbert and Jamie Andriskie add experience to the team - both having played in the South Australian AFL with West Adelaide. Jamie was also last year's Best on Ground winner for the AFL Canberra Grand Final, winning him the Alex Jesaulenko Medal.
Luke Whatman is a talented youngster who captained the NSW / ACT RAMS in 2002, whilst Ryan Quade is another player who is of interest. Ryan comes from a talented football family, with his uncle Ric Quade being the Sydney Swans inaugural coach when the Club moved to Sydney from Melbourne in the early 80's.
"The final should provide spectators with a tremendous match between two sides which contain many outstanding young players." said Assistant Coach Keith Miller.
The Queanbeyan Tigers will be organising a supporter's bus to travel to Sydney to watch the game. Ticket's are available at a cost of $30 per head, and are available from the Tigers Club on 6299 3467. For more information contact the Club or Football operations Manager Ron Fowlie on 0419 280 764.
