    Farmer in trouble

Australia's leading source of information and entertainment

    Dockers' Farmer charged with assault

Star Fremantle forward Jeff Farmer has been charged with the common assault of his 25-year-old partner.

Farmer, who showed good form for the Dockers in the opening game of the season against Carlton on the weekend, is alleged to have assaulted his partner yesterday afternoon.

Fremantle chief executive officer Cameron Schwab says it is inappropriate for the club or Farmer to comment on the matter.

"I understand as I said that you would have lots of questions in relation to the matter, but we are not able to take it any further," Schwab said.

"Quite clearly it is a matter before the courts, but also given the sensitivity to Jeff and his family."

Farmer is due to appear in court tomorrow and is expected to plead not guilty to the charge.

The club said he would be available for selection for the clash against the Swans in Sydney this weekend.

In terms of football, it may just make him all the more dangerous (ala Milne). IMO.

why do people refer to their girlfriends/wives/boyfriends/husbands as partners these days?

I always assume they are gay for some reason.

Not taht there's anything wrong with that, I just find it strange....

Bcause if you aren't married then you can't say "wife" and if you live withomeone (and have children/mortgage/etc) then "girlfriend" is an inaccurate and belittling term. Simple really.

I'm with you CTS on this one, I believe that it is primarily due to the PC movement.

I don't understand how it is "belittling" to be referred to as someones boyfriend or girlfriend - could you please explain that one sharp9

Schoolkids have girlfriends....people who don't live with their loved one have girlfriends....it really is better (IMO) to differentiate between casual and long term/committed relationships.

            Sorry about the OT BTW.

exactly, and the word partner could mean anything

              friend/girlfriend/wife differentiates the difference.

No big deal, I just find it strange.

So should Goldie Hawn call Kurt Russell her "boyfriend" even though they have been a couple for decades and have adult children together?
