    James - 8 games
    Roberts-Thomson - 17 games
    Ablett - 9 games
    Bevan - 1 game
    McVeigh - 1 game
    Powell - 6 games
    Rogers - 0 games
    Doyle - 20 games
    Schneider - 24 games

And people still say we have an old list...

Saddington in the forward pocket is interesting... something tells me he'll still end up on a wing.
    We hate Anthony Rocca
    We hate Shannon Grant too
    We hate scumbag Gaspar
    But Leo WE LOVE YOU!

The interchange is interesting because Roos had recently said that Doyle needs aother game in Reserves and that Schneider will play Reserves to get match fit.

Also the placement of Saddo in the forward pocket is a good move. IMO. A while ago I suggested that Saddo should be placed in the forward line and allowed to go for his marks a la Luffy. Whether he is played in the forward line on Sunday is another matter. With LRT named on the HBF there could be a straight swap.

Is Rogers there to combat their inclusion of the 2 longmuires and simmonds up forward?? Or is his name there for the sake of it? Doyle would have to get a run to drag a tall ruckman down back to take him on. Good side

I think of the bench that was named, McVeigh and Powell will get a game. With the remaining 2 spots I feel one will go to either Doyle and Rogers to give us more options size wise. Schneider will play in the 2nds to get some match fitness while the 4th spot will go to Kennelly, but if he pulls out Beven gets a game
          Once was, now elsewhere

If Rogers, LRT & Powell were to play we would have Goodes,Ball,Doyle,LRT,Rogers,Powell,James, BoltonC,Saddington as our taller players.

Now I've heard that players are becoming taller but don't you think this is too much.

I would rather be too tall than short, their talls are friggin massive - that dam light tower ought to be illeagal. We have to match their talls, we also have some tough, smaller players like Kirk and Jude to even it out.

Anyone know what's up with Troy Cook? He's one ex-Swannie that I have a bit of a soft spot for and I love the way he plays. Had presumed we'd get a chance to see him this weekend but obviously not...

Cookie has missed all the preseason recovering from a broken ankle sustained in Round 22 last year. He has played the first two games for Perth in the WAFL (probably the first time for years) and is just about ready. Must have been touch and go whether he got a gig this week but with our newfound quality depth it was probably wiser to leave him a bit longer.

My guess is that he will be used to free up Saddington to be tried elsewhere.

We can expect to see a lot of dynamics in the back half this week, should be interesting.

Out of this lot I wouldn't be surprised to see Ablett and Powell drop out. Let's face it nobody was really bad last week so someone has to go to allow Doyle and Scheids to come in. Ablett was a bit slow last week and part of the cause of the Lions flooding IMO.
I can't believe Doyle won't come in 2 ressies game is plenty. With Davis missing Schneids surely has to come in with a bit of bench time to see him through the 4 q's.

As much as I hate to say it Bevan will probably go out for Kennelly.

I'm excited about Saddo playing forward. Let's hope he can take a few grabs and set up and kick a couple of goals.

Would be very disappointed if Bevan gets dropped, he excelled in his first game. I would prefer to see Powell go out.

IMO, rogers would be an excellent matchup on medhurst. medhurst is pretty one dimensional and relies on his strength to take marks rather than speed, which is the opposite to what you would expect from a small player. he is in much the same mould as o'keefe, and the best way to combat such a player is to put someone strong on him and from what ive seen of rogers, he isnt slow. this matchup would be a great opportunity for rogers to be up against a quality(?) opponent without too much of a worry in his debut. leo, the most obvious matchup for medhurst, in round 2 last year was outbodied by medhurst as was his exploits in round 17 as well, outbodying numerous opponents. medhurst kicked 4.2 last week. bevan would not be a good matchup on medhust for the above reasons, neither would powell for that matter. if crouch is to cover farmer, bevan's only real option would be to tag hasleby, however, this would force a more damaging midfielder out of the centre, which IMO, we cannot afford.

with saddington being named in the forward line, powell's role from last week will have to change, and sadly i believe that powell will be dropped for this game.

please roosy, this week can we see LRT as a CHB! id like to see him against polak, both players are new at their craft and much like the rogers-medhurst matchup, LRT on polak, potentially, isnt too much of a risk.

simmonds at FF could be a worry, to which james is an obvious (only?) opponent. Longmuire will also rotate through there. james to have first crack at either. james was terrific last week against leppitsch, the stanza of play where james outbodied leppitsch and worked his way to the front of the contest and then won the free kick had me licking my chops! if he can outbody leppitsch; snake or J Lo wont be a worry...

when pavlich moves to goodes, i think roosy could exploit the situation and move B2 or saddington (or even james) on to pavlich, effectively freeing up goodes as a spare man, while this does mean that there will be a free docker as well, nothing could match goodesy without an opponent! furthermore, there is no apparent opponent, apart from pavlich, in the freo side that can take goodes and i believe that connolly will try and use pavlich on goodes as much as possible.

depending on where saddington plays, determines where bolton will play. if saddington is on pavlich, bolton back. if saddington forward, bolton on pavlich. both bolton and saddinton are worthy opponents to pavlich, IMO, as in the middle both have a ball-winning capacity. if pavlich moves forward, bolton will go to him as it seems saddington is no longer a backman.

goodes doesnt have a chance in the ruck contests against sandilands. ball could create a contest, but doyle is needed IMO. sure, doyle's durability is suspect, but we need him against been poles, and sandilands is the biggest of them all!

kirk to contain bell. mathews with stints on hasleby. let headland and co worry about us.

kennelly on waterhouse; it wont matter that tadhg may be a little underdone! leo can be rotated on to waterhouse, if tadhg is struggling with fitness or touch.

waterhouse and medhurst are one-dimensional, if they arent forward, theyre on the pine. farmer is a little bit more versatile, however, crouchy will follow him everywhere.
so, if rogers covers medhurst, crouch covers farmer, tadhg takes waterhouse, leo to take the resting midfielder, james on snake and LRT on polak, a potent forward line is no longer looking so potent, that is on paper. if rogers struggles on medhust, leo can be switched on to him, mathews takes the resting midfielder and rogers to the bench, with the option of rogers as an impact player off the bench, forward or back.

schneider's presence was missed last week, once davis was off, all crumbing ability was gone as magic was playing as a FF. schneider to stay in the pocket where he can create some head aches. he would not need the whole game to make an impact.

therefore my starting lineup would look like this:

                            b: rogers/medhurst james/snake leo/schammer
                            hb: crouch/farmer bolton/polak kennelly/waterhouse
                            c: maxfield/headland goodes/pavlich fosdike/walker
                            hf: williams/carr hall/haddrill okeefe/hayden
                            f: saddington/woods doyle/mcpharlin oloughlin/parker
                            fol: ball/sandilands kirk/bell bolton/hasleby
                            int: mathews LRT schneider mcveigh/ablett

IMO: ablett and mcveigh fighting for the one spot. however i do note that ablett has been named on the wing, so i preume he is in and rogers is probably no where near selection

                            out: bevan and powell

any thoughts on the above? please, fire away!

Schammer is small, I dont know if Barry on Schammer is a good match up. Barry on Medhursts would do the trick, I guess. Bevan on Schammer would be a much better match-up. I dont see the role for Rogers at the moment. He still needs to apply himself though, we will NEED him sometimes soon.

Your forward line is way too tall and clearly lack pace at ground level. O"Keefe is small forward but he plays a tall man game. Saddo O'Loughlin, Hall and Doyle would not be effectively once the ball hits the deck and the defence rebounces. We do need a small player with explosive pace in our forward. Schneider would be ideal.

Albett is going anywhere. He has been named in 18's. McVeigh would never be dropped after one game.

                              My guess is:
                              Out Powell and Davis,
                              In Kennelly and Schneider.

If Kennelly does not pass the fitness test, Powell is to stay. Doyle another one or two games in the reserve. Doyle should only be played when he reaches the match-condition level of fitness. He is too important to be rushed back, especially this early in the year.
