    Sledging Jeff Farmer

Ok so sledging and rightly so - the Saints players over what has alledgly happened is way out of bounds for sledging.

However in peoples eyes would it be ok to sledge farmer over his domestic dispute ? Is that taking it to far ? Or within " reasonable" ?

It would definately put him off his game imo and take a potential game breaker out of the equation.

Farmer gets peeved at the littlest things - what if he got stuck upon regarding this matter ? He would lose the plot!

We do not know the circumstances in the Farmer court case and IMO sledging is not on. Last week in Brisbane Mickey O received a lot of booing from Brisbane people who did not know the details of his situation and it peed me off no end .

I think he is fair game. Hitting a women who is your partner is low and having come from a family that has a history of it, I know what sort of problems it causes.

          Farmer's partner 'pleaded for help'

By Luke Morfesse, Luke Eliot and Mark Duffield

THE 25-year-old partner of Fremantle Dockers star Jeff Farmer was carrying a small child and near hysterical when she ran screaming into an Osborne Park furniture warehouse on Tuesday, witnesses have told police.

They have also said that the mother of Mr Farmer's two children pleaded with staff at the Frobisher Street business to lock the doors and call police.

The alleged incident, which happened about midday, led to the 26-year-old Docker being charged yesterday with common assault.

The offence carries a maximum penalty of 18 months jail or a $6000 fine.

Witnesses told police that the woman had jumped out of a car before running into the premises claiming that she had been threatened.

Police were also told Mr Farmer went to the premises demanding that his partner return his bank card.

It will be alleged that the woman was hit several times while still in the car.

Yesterday, several hours after Mr Farmer was charged at the Scarborough police station, Fremantle Dockers chief executive Cameron Schwab said Farmer would train with the club today and be available for selection against Sydney on Sunday.

Mr Schwab said that the charge, which Mr Farmer is due to face in the Perth Magistrate's court today, was the result of a domestic matter.

"Jeff will plead not guilty when he appears in court," he said. "As this matter will now be dealt with by the courts, it is inappropriate for the club or the player to make any further statement. Until the matter is concluded, no comment or statement will or can be made."

When The West Australian approached Mr Farmer at his Canning Vale home last night, he said he had no comment to make.

Fremantle officials were made aware of the alleged assault late on Tuesday afternoon.

The club formed a committee to manage the crisis, including chairman Rick Hart, Mr Schwab, football manager Steven Icke, coach Chris Connolly and communications manager Keith Black.

Mr Farmer and his manager Ron Joseph have engaged lawyer Stephen Scott to represent Mr Farmer.

Over about three hours the committee discussed the handling and possible ramifications of the issue.

It is understood that the AFL, WA Football Commission, Fremantle club directors and major sponsors were contacted and told about the allegation.

Dockers staff were briefed yesterday morning.

Mr Farmer, who underwent anger management training in 2002 to curb his on-field aggression, had barely been seen at Fremantle Oval during the build-up to the season because of the death of two relatives in as many weeks.

Mr Farmer's uncle died on the eve of the club's first Wizard Cup game and then a teenage cousin died in a road accident.

Mr Farmer's parents, sister, partner and their two children attended last Saturday's game.

IMO, if the players don't take it to far just enough to put him off his game, then thats alright.

Is it any worse than "normal" ledging?

              Farmer won't be sledged

              By Mark Duffield

SYDNEY has given its assurance that Jeff Farmer will not be taunted over his domestic violence assault charge after Fremantle announced its star forward was available to play this weekend.

Swans chief executive Myles Baron-Hay planned to speak to senior coach Paul Roos and football manager Andrew Ireland after learning of Farmer's charge yesterday.

But he said the talk would only be a matter of reinforcing existing club policies and values ahead of Sunday's round two clash at the SCG.

"One of our values is about respect, and having respect for opponents," he said.

"We wouldn't condone players sledging, particularly in these circumstances.

"It is something that the football staff, including coaches and support staff would work out with the players.

"I am now aware of the issue and will be speaking with senior staff about it. I will leave it with them to manage it with the player group."

Farmer, 26, is expected to train with teammates today after the club declared him available to play against the Swans.

"As the matter will now be dealt with by the courts, it is inappropriate for the club or any player to make any further statement," a brief club statement said.

Just offer him a few backhands in return. Make sure he knows that we are out to get the bastard. Hopefully Crouchy or whoever he gets can get under his skin and totally through the dirty little bastard off his game

Personally I prefer the club's attitude towards this - have the boys let their football do the talking.

Agree with Lizz - just because others do it, why should we? Focus on the footy.

Get Jason Ball to pick up Jared Crouch, and run away from Farmer shouting "Don't hurt me! Dont hurt me!".
                        That's just disgusting.
                        How could anyone post that.
                        Domestic abuse is never funny.
                        I'm outraged.

                          Not on.

Ever heard of innocent until proven guilty?

Even he had already been found guilty, don't you think it'd be a little bit offensive and insulting to Farmer's partner? I know that if I was the subject of abuse, I'd be shocked if footy players used it as a joke.

I think the Swans have an image of being gentlemen. I'd prefer that they live up to it.

using an issue as serious as assault or rape for advantage in football only cheapens that issue and constitutes exploitation of the alleged victims. you could even argue that sledging takes advantage of the act itself.

i believe sledging should be kept to stuff from inside the boundary. leave people's personal lives out of it. if someone has a bad day with the boot, let them know about it. if you think you can get someone thinking twice with either doubt or fear, get inside their head and have a good bellow.

leave the wives, kids and (alleged) rape victims out of it.

oh and cancer jokes are a bit rough too.

then again, i think it would be worth trying 15-16 players on field so what would i know
