    Random Thoughts

*Jude Bolton and Nic Fosdike finally have the self belief that they are league footballers and are going out there with authority and confidence. Took a while for them to come out of the shadow of Kelly and Schwass but now with all of the old guard retired they are leading the charge.

Bolton's goal right on 3/4 time was particularally pleasing.

*Jared Crouch was simply irresistible. If he and Kirk can keep it up, we will be in business.

*Ryan O'Keefe again was a bit of an unsung hero. Like always, just went along minding his own business and doing his stuff quietly. Love his strong hands and his booming left foot which always seems to know where the goals are. His two majors were so terribly important, especially the first one. We need R'OK firing if we are to be a threat.

*Clint Bolton and Heath James were outstanding in defence. Didn't do anything flash which is exactly how you like it. Both picked up a ton of touches and keep their opponents pretty quiet. Longmuir threatened on CB early but after that little burst he went MIA.

*Just one touch in the game to LRT and for mind, he is still a bit of a concern. We need solid backup in the talls brigade and he has to stand tall.

With Brisbane out of the way, we have a pretty good draw and could or should be 6-1 heading to Subi to play the Eagles. The key is the Kangaroos match in Canberra which always seems to stump us.

We have to get early wins on the board and we have St Kilda, Port, Colingwood and Adelaide in the space of five weeks between Rounds 11-15.

I share your concerns re LRT as I have watched him closely now for the past 3 games, including the Dons in Newcastle.

Even taking into account his youth and inexperience etc, his disposal seems to be getting worse.

Last season he did a lot of what he did on instinct and some of it came off well.

Now he is thinking about it and while he is spending time thinking about it, he gets cornered or he takes the wrong option, ie 2 on 1 duels that are low percentage.

Personally, I would have had Powelly out there yesterday ahead of LRT.

He had a pretty forgettable game. Although I noticed that ROK and BBB both took marks that he'd leaped for in the final quarter, he really has got enormous spring.
Also I thought his disposal by hand particularly against Brisbane was much improved

Maybe just a bad day at the office?

Commented about LRT in another thread, you've noted his presence in those marking contests allowed ROK and Baz to mark and goal. Just goes to show there's a lot more to footy play than just touches. I don't think he did that bad IMO, although perhaps a run in the ressies to get some more touches might not be a bad thing. However if Doyle does come in it needs to be for the right reasons coz Doyle will provide something quite different to LRT.

Yep. They are consistently getting in the low 20's possesion wise - this year both averaging 21 and 22 respectively - throw in willo who is averaging 25 so far this year and the tone is set already for both all to have good years.

Like to look of Bevan. 2 goals whilst up forward and some great desperate defensive work as well.

            Crouch was definite BOG.

From what I've seen of them, we'll have our work well and truly cut out for us. They're like some speed-crazed junkie with his eye on your wallet and mobile phone. Almost willing you to simply hand them over with so much as a whimper. I have the Gherig and Hamill voodoo dolls full of pins - esp around the cruciate ligament area!!

How could I have forgotten about Bevan???

Could he be Schneider Mark II - that would be too good to be true.

It is good to have Jason Ball back.He struggles at centre bounces but he has the strength to compete at ball ups and throw ins.
He is also handy around the ground. Not his best game yesterday but he will get better and he takes the pressure of Goodes in the ruck.

Agree with all of above, saw it on TV so not such a good perspective...

In no particular order (and will not mention Sadds)

LRT - mild concern, out of touch
Bevo/McV - blooded a couple of real prospects here
Ball'y good in parts, will improve
                    Schneider needed the run
The unsungs Fossy, Crouch'y Matthews, Leaping, Boltons great!
O'Keefe more like what we hoped for
                    Maxfield better than Briss'y
                    Goode'sy ordinary day
                    Hall good and strong

Look we played good at times in the conditions, and my only real complaint was sleeping periods end 2ndQ and most of 3rdQ, and thatvwe did not win by 50!
It will be tight this year and % is VITAL!!

it would be very handy if bevan and schneider could rotate through the middle from FP

I tend to agree with this, although earlier in Q1 or 2 LRT pulled out of a couple of contests where he was in a better position to take the mark than Pebbles and Hall. I think he needs to back himself a bit more. If he thinks he has the sit, stick a knee on Pebble's or Hall's shoulder getting to it. Something experience will only remedy.

Can you imagine the hoo hah around here if LRT starts trying to mark over Hall? I think screening Hall from behind is a better option (which he did yesterday - intentional? Probably not, but educational!).

One of my pet hates with the swans is when too many of them go up for a marking contest and noone stays on the ground to pick up the inevitable crumbs. Leads to a few too many goals against us in the back line.

Yep I know, but what if he takes the grab and is able to goal. I'll be happy for them to share, as long as they don't get in each others way and spoil it as Sharpie mentioned.

In these two cases, neither were marked as I think LRT kind of got in Hall's way and then pulled out when he saw who was there, and I think the other one, Pebbles was caught under the ball, but LRT again, didn't back himself. It just seemed to me he was stepping back once he saw who was around him. He has earnt a spot on the team and needs to back himself, even if it means outplaying our better players. If he's successful, look where it puts him. Win, Win either way. He's young and as you said it's all educational.
