    Weak.

    Recieved by email........

This weeks game against Geelong will be shown on Fox Footy channel at 7.10pm

Unfortunately the South Melbourne Soccer Club is currently experiencing problems and we are uncertain of the venue being available to us on a regular basis for supporters to gather to watch the team play interstate. But we can confirm we are using the venue for our After Match after the Round 6 game against Essendon.

    Sorry for the inconvenience

Gotta say that things are much better down here than they were last year.

Firstly, we got to see the first couple of games for the first time in years.

The Swans fans are actually being kept in the loop with emails etc.

But how hard is it to find a pub who wouldn't mind a couple of hundred Swans fans to buy beer all night?

      Melbourne Venues

I wonder why they stopped going to Bells hotel?
Every year the venue to meet at seems to be somewhere else. There's been several hotels around South area. I wonder why? Surely we don't do something to outwear our welcome?
We've had Aftermatch functions at Bob Jane Stadium on and off for a few years now.
My favourite was Flemington, great for an aftermatch and a great place to watch a game.

We stopped going to Bell's because

        a) we had a deal with them to host our 2 aftermatch functions last season only
        b) the sponsorship deal the club has with Lion Nathan, is such that any official pub in either Melbourne or Sydney had to be a "Tooheys" pub, of which Bell's wasn't.

At the moment the deal we had with the South Melbourne Soccer Club might be worthless, seeing as South are no longer part of the NSL and are close to going out of business. In any case it might be the club waiting to see what happens with South before deciding what to do in regards to the Lake Oval.

On the Aftermatches, there well, the excuse most used why its been on/off over so many years is

        a) venue cost too much to hire for the functions
        b) not a very popular place (Albert By the Park Room that is) because of the cost of drinks, lack of food etc.

On Flemington again great place, poor location for most fans living in Melbourne (most of us live in the South East), plus to get there for aftermatches via public transport is impossible.

With South Melbourne soccer club all but gone, I think the AFL should invest in Bob jane to provide a trainning venue for the swans, similar to the Brisbane set up. I think they have some sort of set up up in the northern suburbs (doncaster?)

This will give us a base to see the boys train and to build the South spirit and involvement in the club. Who needs those useless old pubs!

I rang the Swans office yesterday to confirm the Swans social club would be open to shown the game this week as I understood it was on Foxtel.

They said it wasn't on this week because it was being shown on free-to-ait TV.

Then I get the above email.

On another note. When in Melbourne can anyone recommend a place to stay - say 2.5 stars -3 stars for a family of two adults and two kids (under 12) and under $100/nite (and of course it is the weekend of the Essendon game).
