    Aftermatch Apology

To everyone at the aftermatch tonight I want to apologise for it not running so smoothly. I had planned out the times that things were going to happen and it just didn't work. It was great to see Cressa up there which I didn't want to say he was coming just in case he didn't but it was later than anticipated as were the players. This is the first time that there has been so much time with nothing happening and I will make sure this doesn't happen again. I will have to bring back the musical challenge as more people in the crowd get into it and it keeps entertaining for longer. I am always open to feedback as I want to do whatever I can to make it a fun and appealing atmosphere for everyone. I have had a few requests on how to improve the AM and some are working with talking to the 2s players and also trying to have more footy stuff to talk about but some of the changes are not working. I will try and get a "Celebrity interviewee" each week. Again I am sorry that tonight was not the best aftermatch and will make sure the next one is a hell of a lot more entertaining.

No worries Luffy - I didn't really mind the pause as I use the aftermatch function to catch up with mates etc anyway

It was good to see Cressa get up and talk to the crowd, you really see that he loves the place still and hopefully we'll see him back at Driver Ave sooner rather than later.

177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out....

I don't go the the aftermatches very often but did go last night and thought it was fine. As Des mentioned, the timing probably isn't that critical for the oldies amongst us who just want to catch up with friends and chat - though I guess it is a problem for the kiddies.

I thought it fantastic that Cressa came along. Thanks to him for doing that, and also to Geelong for allowing him to do so - I'm sure they had to rearrange some of their own post-match procedures to spare him the time.

One small comment / suggestion - when you were interviewing Mathews and Hall it was quite hard to hear what they were saying from the back of the room. Any chance of turning the volume up? Or maybe it was just that they weren't talking into their mics properly because I could hear you just fine.

        Troy,

I thought it was fine. Most of us were catching up with friends or chatting about the game while you seemed to have the kids entertained near the stage. I thought your interviewing was fine - fun and some depth both for Ben and Bazza - and Cressa. However, I think you could have gone in a bit harder. ie you asked Cressa about his influence on the Cats' game plan (and got an answer) but the rest of us were discussing if his intimate knowledge of each Swan led to a strategy that completely broke their game apart. (That's if you'll accept that this was the worst the Swans have played since St Kilda in 2002.) Also, I would have like to know from one of our players if it was just a hard game out their - or just an error riddled one?

I agree with Lizz that you need more volume (a bit) as there was one group of adults that were talking and making it difficult for the rest of the room to hear.

The crowd cleared very quickly after the players left! Then we were told it was time to drink up and leave. Fine after a scratch win last night but I think you'll need more flexibility to let people celebrate if we have a big win - say the Lions by 80 points on July 31.

Does the structure of the after game event remain the same for afternoon and night games? SCG and Telstra?

It's interesting that so many of us are just as happy to listen to Cressa as Bazza, even though the former has gone over to the dark side. He mentioned that Kel was in town and for a moment I hoped he was going to pop up on stage, too. Whenever you can get a past player to visit, I think it'd be great to hear from them and it would add another dimension to the event.

Also, everyone else in the room is discussing tactics with a remarkable lack of expertise. Is there any chance of getting anyone from the coaching staff - or yourself or another expert - to give us a quick overview of the game? That would make us all feel privy to expert info we couldn't get any other way.

Overall, it's great chance to catch up and you feel a lot more like a club than in the crowds over at Fox post game.

Oh, one more thing Luffy - I thought it was great that you got Mick Martyn up on stage last week too. I have a lot of time for Mick, and it was good to hear about the '96 GF from the other perspective.

Don't worry Troy , I think most of us were far more concerned with the DM (During Match) NON-function last night!

Luffy, no need for aplogies. The wait was worth it with Cressa coming up, which was appreciated, along with Hall and Matthews! And thanks for letting us know that the swannies were in the warm down pool!

I thought the aftermatch was great last night Luffy!

It was fantastic that Cressa came up and wonderful to hear from Bazza and Matthews. It was also good hearing from Miklejohn.

You're doing a terrific job at keeping everyone entertained!

I'm waiting with baited breath for Schneids to come up!

I have an idea, maybe you could give celebrity 'AFL' head a try. Although you may have to pick a 'well known' player from the AFL.

Haven't we already heard enough of that desmond? ;-) From one memory one of the most funny after-matches was when you were interviewing Wayne Schwass one hitting you at the 96 Grand Final. Was so ironic, and you were both uncomfortable, but enjoying it none-the same. Your interview style is so natural mate. You make the players feel confortable very quickly, yet you ask interesting questions. Keep it up.

If you hadn't actually said that there was problem last night, I'd not have noticed. I've been harsh on things like "Celebrity Head" etc, so thanks for bring these concerns up last night. I have to ask the floor here, did anyone actually miss it?

Would still like a big screen somewhere where we could watch highlights of the game again. But that is just me.

It is still weird how there is such a different feel at Sydney and Melbourne after-matches. At Bells last year under Tony Morwood people seem to just be happy to mingle and talk about the footy. In Sydney with the amount of littlies who are there, they do need to be constantly caterred to to avoid boredom or impatience setting in.

Am I upsetting anyone here by saying that Sydney people seem to tend to need to be entertained? Whilst the supporters at Melbourne after-matches are just so thrilled to be around the players, that they are quite happy to wait until they arrive.

Thanks heaps, Luffy, for asking Cressa to come up, and please pass on my thanks to him and Geelong for agreeing to come up...I suppose that in that regard it was pretty unusual. As I have Cressas 'red blood' pic from last year as an icon, I guessit's not hard to know that for the past 10 or so years Cressa has been one of my favourite players at the swannies, if not THE favourite. I thought it very very interesting that he harbours a desire one day to coach or be an assistant coach back at driver avenue...you can't instantly dismiss 12 years of red and white blood running through someone's veins! Nice to know also that Cressa and PK were catching up for a schooner or two. I personally think that he and Bomber worked out the swan's midfield pretty well on Saturday night, and their shrewd coaching nearly brought us undone. And don't worry about the AM it was fine. You might need to have a musical challenge lined up next time...and what's happened to the music to support Jemma...
"Davis...Davis has kicked 2...he snaps from 40...dont tell me, dont tell me, hes kicked a goal....unbelievable stuff from Nick Davis, can you believe this, he's kicked 3 final quarter goals and Swans are within 3 points..."

One thing that would be nice is if at least one of the TVs had the sound turned up so we could hear the press conferences with the coaches, especially OUR coach. Maybe you could put the sound thru your PA system when Roosy is on.

It's so frustrating seeing the pictures there but not be able to hear what they are saying

                          Thanks to everyone that replied,

I rang Cressa yesterday to thank him for coming up and he said it was his pleasure, he loved the reception he got. The TVs need volume and I will look into that. There will be a musical challenge next game so brush up on your vocals and dance steps and a few of you are probably right in regard to using the time just to catch up with mates and have a chat, not everyone needs to be entertained.

                          Thanks again

In Melbourne we usually get most of the team turn up for the After Match, so I don't think it can be compared to the ones in Sydney where only a couple of players make it.
I think in Melbourne most people go to see the players, get an autograph, have a chat with them.
They have tried on and off the entertainment, having a bit of a kids trivia comp, but most people don't take a great deal of notice of it.
My reason for going is to catch up with friends, and to have a bit of a perv.. and to get everyone organised for the after-aftermatch dinner.
See you all in Round 6 at the Clarendon Street Pizza (opposite Coles) after the After Match at Bob Jane Stadium - Lakeside.
