Sydney's forward line will be boosted with Michael O'Loughlin expected to return to the side this weekend. O'Loughlin has recovered from a hamstring injury, while forward Nick Davis (hip) has a slim chance of playing against the Kangaroos in Canberra on Sunday.

"Mick at this stage is 95 per cent certain of playing and Davo is a lot further ahead than what we thought," coach Paul Roos said yesterday.

"We were probably looking at originally four to five [weeks], but . . . he ran 100 per cent at 4 o'clock [on Saturday]. He's been kicking a little bit. That's the test for him. Mick, I expect him to play and Davo would be 60-40 as well."

But there was bad injury news for the Kangaroos. Tough man Glenn Archer is set to miss up to two months after rupturing his posterior cruciate ligament in the Kangaroos' thrilling five-point win over Carlton on Saturday.

But the prognosis is less clear for Leigh Colbert, who was taken to hospital following the match after complaining of stomach soreness.

Colbert, who had emergency surgery on his pancreas last year following a collision with a teammate, had tests on this latest injury, most likely caused by an accidental knee in the back from a Carlton opponent early in the second quarter.

Swan Tadhg Kennelly will have an X-ray on his ribs. He left the ground during the second quarter but returned early in the third to complete the match.

"People can play with broken ribs," Swans doctor Nathan Gibbs said.

"It depends on how debilitating they are. We gave him a bit of a painkiller during the game. He went on OK. We'll assess how he is later in the week."

In the third quarter, Sydney captain Stuart Maxfield suffered a whiplash-like injury at the base of his neck/upper back and sat out the rest of the game. However, he is expected to play this weekend.

Kangaroos coach Dean Laidley anticipates a close, intense contest against the Swans at Manuka Oval. "The Swans are a very good running side," he said. "And they are pretty similar to us. They've got a good even mix of players that do the job."

I saw nicky D before the game in the practice oval doing some sprinting drills and he seemed in pretty good shape so i guess he is further ahead than everybody thought.
