Davis on target for quick return

    Great news guys!!!!

Davis on target for quick return
    By Nikki Tugwell
    April 14, 2004
NICK Davis took his famed right boot out of mothballs and completed goal-kicking practice at the SCG yesterday with no sign of hindrance from his torn hip flexor muscle.

Davis, 24, was issued a Friday deadline to demonstrate his freedom of movement and had not kicked with his preferred foot for three weeks.

He was, in his own words, rusty to start and missed his first shots at goal by about 10 metres from 20 metres out on the boundary. But he soon found range, nailing shots from all angles from 40-55 metres.

Not short on confidence, Davis told teammates "it was just like riding a bike" after splitting the middle with a signature 50-metre drop punt.

He is almost certain to be selected for the Swans to play the unbeaten Kangaroos in Canberra on Sunday.

Davis injured his hip in the season-opener against the Brisbane Lions and was expected to miss 4-6 weeks.

"It looks promising," Davis said. "I hadn't kicked properly yet (before yesterday).

"When I extended my leg forward, it had been pulling a little bit. I have been using my left foot but for set shots at goal I need to be kicking right foot accurately."

"I haven't lost fitness so I think I'll be back to the top of my game when I get back."

His availability gives the Swans their first-pick forward line for the first time this season and allows Davis to resume his personal pursuit for the Swans.

"Last season was probably my best season consistency wise," said Davis, who kicked four goals in a half before his injury in the Swans' two-point loss to the Lions.

"This year I'm looking forward to stepping up and being in the best players every week and basically helping the team. It might not mean kicking goals every week but I want to become more of a match-winner."

I'm not religious - but thankyou Lord!
I'll take 2 weeks over 6 weeks anyday!
Even if he just misses selection to be on the safe side - 3 weeks is a very good result!
Hopefully he picks up from where he left off!

I spoke to him at the Freo game and he was feeling very confident ... said he told me that he was ready to have a top season!

My concern is that we have so many players that are carrying injuries:

          Nick Davis
          Michael O?Loughlin
          Tadhg Kennelly
          Stuart Maxfield
          Paul Williams

If they all play, we may be a little "off" at the weekend, IYKWIM.

Hopefully we get our injuries out of the way early in the season. We do seem to have a lot more than last year when we had a particularly good run.
It has to be said we have some of teh best medical staff in the AFL judging by Keneally and Davis' amazing recoveries.
Davo is essential to our forward line functioning properly so here's hoping he tears up the Kangas this weekend.

If Davis plays I wouldnt mind if we rested O'loughlin for another week. IMO Hall, Schneider, Davis and O'keefe should be able to kick enough goals for us to win. With a couple from the midfield and maybe one or two from Ball or Doyle.

Giving Micky a rest might be a good, isea we are comeing up against stiff oposition this week but after that it's Melbourne so if he gets a run in the reserves this week and is BOG we bring him back for the game against melbourne and he's BOG in the seniors.

We can only hope that the injuries the players a carrying are insignificant enought to
                  1. not affect their game and
                  2. not lead to more sevre injuries.

Have to assume the club medical staff are on ball

You wouldn't get Micky in the ressies even if you held his favourite plasma TV to ransom with a meat clever.

He will play this week. Geesh, he's paid to play when fit not sit in the grand stand and "almost play".

I want out best 6 up forward because the back 6 for the Roos is an underrated lot. We need goal kickers all over the ground to kick a winning score.

Last weeks score would have seen us flogged by a better team.

Plus we all thought last week was gonna be a walk over, hence being a good opportunity to rest Magic. If he is fit enough to play, he must play. Same goes with Davis.

If either are not 100%, then they can have a rest and come back when they are ready, it should not depend on the opposition.

The best six of the roos are underrated, but without Archer and possibly Colbert, they will be worse than usual.

Ten news just said that with Davis and Magic likely to play, the ones under pressure to hold their spots are Buchanan, Ablett and Bevan.

I would think that Buchanan will be first man cut, and probably Bevan next, although I would prefer to see Ablett go.

On what I saw of Buchanan last week he would have to be in front of Bevan and Ablett by a mile. I must say though they are giving Ablett every chance to prove himself.

Agreed. Bucky was inspirational in the 4th quarter with some telling possessions and of course that spoil on Ling when the game was in the balance.
